Murphy

Looks like the close race between Columbia, Mo. native Scott Murphy and his GOP rival won’t quite make it to Franken-Coleman territory.

While the Minnesota Senate seat still has not been officially filled, Murphy has expanded his lead over Republican state legislator Jim Tedisco for a Congressional seat in upstate New York.

Murphy currently leads by about 400 votes. While some 500 absentees remain uncounted, they are from Democratic-leaning areas that make it “all but impossible” for Tedisco to win, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Murphy is seeking the seat vacated by now Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who in turn was appointed to replace Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Before moving to New York, Murphy was an aide to Missouri governors Roger Wilson and Mel Carnahan.

He would become the second graduate of Hickman High in Columbia serving on Capitol Hill.

The other one?

Former Homecoming Queen Claire McCaskil, of course.

Scott Murphy ran an honest and admirable campaign and portrayed himself as a serious gentleman.

This was in sharp contrast to his opponent Jim Tedisco who did his best to smear Mr. Murphy and that in my opinion was Tedisco’s undoing. My sense is that a large number of voters now reject the negative tactics that are focused upon making their opponent look bad rather than explain how he is going to make the lives of voters and americans better.

I look forward to Mr Murphy in the Congress.
