Newt Gingrich speaks about health care

JEFFERSON CITY — Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich spoke about health care reform this morning at a panel called, “Creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System in Missouri.”

Gingrich, R-Ga., said health care reform needs to start with individual responsibility and progress to changing the whole system.

He also criticized President Barack Obama’s health care proposals, saying the cost isn’t feasible with the stimulus package.

He pointed to local efforts, such as Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett’s 2008 citywide effort to lose weight.

Gingrich also said dentists have a good medical model. Instead of fighting changes that are potentially financially harmful to them, such as making fluoride more prevalent, Gingrich said, the dentists have “migrated upward with prevention.” Now, dentists can make money with braces and teeth whitening.

Gingrich said he’s in Missouri to ask attendees to “develop the kind of new ideas and solutions that will help this state and take ideas and collaboration to other states.”

At 1 p.m., he’ll be speaking at the Capitol Plaza Hotel with Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, at 3:15 with Attorney General Chris Koster and at 3:45 with Senate President Pro Tem Charlie Shields.

Fluoridation never hurt dentists bottom line. They endorse it because its a good PR move that gives legislators an excuse not to do the right thing which is to mandate that all dentists treat more low-income Americans. US children have died from untreated tooth decay because dentists want more money before they will treat Medicaid children. Fluoridation also gives the illusion dentists care about the low income people they won’t allow over their thresholds. 80% of dentists refuse Medicaid patients and over 120 million Americans don’t have dental insurance.

Organized dentistry lobbies long and hard with their pockets filled with corporate cash to prevent any viable groups from infringing upon their lucrative monopoly - even if Americans must suffer and die as a result.

The Louisiana Dental Association forced a state-wide fluoridation mandate without notification of those who have to drink it. Yet, they are stopping a Medicaid dentist from treating poor childrens unfilled cavities in the schools because they feel such programs will hurt other dentists’ bottom lines - a claim they publicly put on petition forms trying to keep the one Mediciad dentist from helping poor children suffering from dental pain.

Organized dentistry is not a professional that should be admired in any way. They are a disgrace

The republican health care plan is to tell people to stop making bad health choices and eat their vegtables three times a day. BTW, I wouldn’t view Gingrich as a role model. Newt needs to take his own advice before he starts spouting his simplistic #%$@.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but ANYONE is allowed to see a dentist, receive treatment, and pay for the services rendered, right?

I didn’t know people died from tooth decay. How prevalent is that and why are there still people in Arkansas if tooth decay kills?

Sounds like someone is stumping for the Republican Presidential run on 2012.

Hopefully Newt will run in 2012. The clown we have now is a worldwide embarassment. Voters remorse will have a huge effect in the next election. (If comrade Obama allows elections)

So Obama is a world wide embarassment. The millions who greeted him and cheered him last week were pretending they weren’t embarassed by his presence. They were hoping to see their true hero and global savior… George W. Bush.

Newt must get past Palin/Jindal before he can tell Obama to lose weight and get his teeth whitened in order to solve our nation’s healthcare crisis.

2012 GOP will be even more comical than 2008.
The American people are smart enough to know who created our economic mess.
They proved their knowledge last November.
Some people will continue to insist they like being kicked by the mule.

Whoa. . wait a minute everybody. Try to take a non-partisan deep breath if you can. I’ve heard Gingrich speak on healthcare a number of times. He is VERY well versed on the subject. A major focus of his efforts in healthcare has to do with modernizing how medical information is handled. He wants to bring healthcare out of the dark ages where clinicians do not take advantage of viable technology to store/retrieve information and allow it to support them in their decision making.

Also, this article is poorly written/edited (”Instead of fighting potentially financially harmful to them…”) and does not get to the main theme of what Gingrich is trying to accomplish.

I know Gingrich is a polarizing figure. It’s unfortunate that some of the good work he’s doing in this area gets swept up in that.

If you are proof, the American people are NOT smart enough to know who created our economic “mess.”

EVERYONE from Washington to Wall Street to Main Street share responsibility. You are too dense to realize that….
