JEFFERSON CITY — National online publication Politico has the Roy Blunt-Robin Carnahan race for the U.S. Senate in 2010 as No. 5 on its most watched list of FEC reports due today.

Says Politico about Missouri’s race:

5. The clash of Missouri titans. Early fundraising will present the first tangible test in the open Senate contest between Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and Republican Rep. Roy Blunt, two candidates from prominent Missouri political families.

Blunt is by no means assured the nomination—he is likely to be challenged in the GOP primary by former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman. And Steelman, who is not required to file a report since she is not yet formally a candidate, will find her bid energized if Blunt’s cash figures prove to be disappointing.

Carnahan’s numbers are in, and she topped $1 million. The Blunt camp appears to be lowering expectations. Asked yesterday while in the Missouri Capitol about today’s fund-raising numbers, Blunt said:

“The last thing I’m worried about is whether we raised the money,” Blunt said. “We’ll raise the money.”

We’ll report Blunt’s numbers on the Political Fix as soon as we get them! Also check my Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/tonymess for quick updates on fund-raising numbers all day.

Those who call this socialism are totally missing the point. If we can pay billions to rich guys for mismanaging their businesses, then we can certainly afford a minimum wage for people.

The minimum wage will be $7.25 an hour this year, or $15,080 per year if you work 40 hours every single week. The poverty wage was $21,834 for a family of four in 2008. People at the poverty level end up collecting other benefits that are paid for with your tax dollars. It’s going to cost us no matter what.

You can pay it in taxes or pay it in the cost of goods and services, your choice. So why not give people who are willing to work a chance to do better?

Don’t count Roy out yet.

He’s got Roy Temple on board in place of Jared Craighead who was responsible for the dysfunction we’ve seen up to this point. Temple will bring discipline and focus to Blunt’s campaign and he knows all of Robin’s dirty little secrets.

Temple needs to get a handle on Rich Chrismer who is a lousy spokesman. You would think the Blunt’s would have learned there lesson on him since it was his idea to send all of Scott Eckersly’s emails to the press. That obviously didn’t turn out well for Junior.

Hang in there Roy!

When the Missouri electorite realizes that electing Ms. Carnahan will increase the power of the tax and spend democratic party in washington, she will be soundly defeated.

Rich Chrismer, a lousy spokesman? Come on, Jim Bob … just because he said he was going to prosecute somebody for taking a picture of writing in a hockey player’s name on his ballot doesn’t mean he’s a misguided clown. You’re just plain unfair!

Will there be a box for NEITHER on the Senate ballot in 2010?
