Blunt strikes back at ad targeting vote against energy bill

Southwest Missouri U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, a candidate for Senate, has returned fire at the League of Conservation Voters, who targeted the Republican’s vote against a House energy bill.

Supporters of the Clean Energy and Security Act says the legislation would combat global warming and help fight America’s dependence on foreign oil.

In a statement today, Blunt spokesman Rich Chrimser called the bill a “backdoor energy tax” pushed, he says, by Blunt’s presumptive 2010 Democratic opponent, Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

Never mind that Carnahan, for now at least, serves in Jefferson City, not Washington.

“The ad is false and misleading because it conceals the feature of the bill that Roy opposes, which is Robin Carnahan’s new federal tax on people’s electricity,” Chrismer said. “If this new tax is enacted, it will bring new hardship to families, new job losses, and lasting harm to the Missouri economy.”

Pardon me - we need to have some party primaries before Roy Blunt has any presumptive opponent on the Democratic side. Tom Schweich and/or Sarah Steelman will have something to say about that on the Republican side. No such serious party opposition has arisen for Mrs. Carnahan.

Its interesting isn’t it that the LCV is so obsessed with Roy Blunt and intentionally misrepresents what he ACTUALLY believes by cherry picking some votes to highlight? Blunt favors the standard, “all of the above” energy policy, and opposes energy taxes and cap and trade.

Tell me again why his position doesn’t make sense? Sounds like a good balance to me.

Nevermind that Carnahan serves in Jefferson City not Washington? You are effing kidding me, right? SHE WANTS TO BE A US SENATOR AND WORK IN WASHINGTON!!! You’re telling me its not appropriate to actually take a look at her take on this, given that she wants to serve the people of Missouri in the upper chamber?

Mr. Wagman, you can’t be naive enough to think that a declared candidate for the US Senate (Carnahan) is somehow above examination for this? I am quite sure that she had something to do with it, and even if she didn’t, is reveling in you reporters refusal to actually corner her and ask her some questions and get her on the record.

Its not like she’s running for office or anything. Oh wait…

Chrimser brings up a good point. This bill will seriously hurt more families than just in Missouri, though. I think if anything this ad makes me want to hear from Robin Carnahan, so she can defend this policy and tell us why she would favor it.

And if she doesn’t favor it, it would be nice to know that too. But we don’t, because she’s being all passive-aggressive and hiding from the public.

How about I call the League of Conservation Voters and say that THEY can do better. What a lame add. I love how it doesn’t even mention how much economic damage it is going to do.

Carnahan is clearly supportive of this energy tax on families. Thanks for voting against it Mr. Blunt.

Is any reporter going to ask Carnahan her position?

Noooooooooo… probably not because they know she supports the energy tax and feel like giving her a pass. Just like the last several months of her campaign.

Randolph Duke - I’m sorry, but him having a primary opponent or not doesn’t give Carnahan a free pass to avoid answering ANY tough questions. How nice that SHE doesn’t have a primary opponent, but it would be great if somebody got her on the record about SOMETHING!!

David - for what it’s worth, I agree. My point is that Roy Blunt is not facing any Democrat because he must first get past a Republican primary if Steelman/Schweich get in on the GOP side. To indicate otherwise buys into the inevitability of Roy Blunt’s nomination. I say it is not inevitable. Does that make it evitable? Anyway, you and I have no quarrel. I’m all for EVERY Senate hopeful answering questions - Blunt, Steelman, Schweich AND Carnahan.
