Busted: Kit Bond’s hometown unveils statue in his honor
U.S. Sen. Kit Bond may be retiring at the end of his term, but he’ll preside forever — in bronze — in his hometown.
The city of Mexico, Mo., where Bond has deep family roots, dedicated a bust to the veteran Missouri lawmaker and former governor that will be displayed in front of the Audrain County historical museum.
Unveiled in a ceremony Friday night, the pedestal inscription offers “sincere appreciation for his exceptional service to the people of Missouri.”
The bronze was sculpted by artist Sabra Tull Meyer, whose work also includes likenesses of other famous Missourians, such as John Ashcroft and football pioneer Lamar Hunt.
According to the Mexico Ledger, the local business chamber raised about $9,000 to put towards the statue.
