McCaskill recalls losing race for governor: “Huge public failure”

McCaskill

When Claire McCaskill lost the 2004 election to Republican Matt Blunt, her dreams of being the state’s first woman governor were wiped away– and so too, she thought, was her political career.

After the race, McCaskill told business school graduates at Missouri State University on Friday evening, she planted herself on the couch and took solace in generous portions of chocolate chip cookies.

“”It was very difficult for me,” McCaskill said, according to the Springfield News-Leader. “It was a huge public failure.”

Four years later, of course, McCaskill is now an influential U.S. Senator, whose lack of seniority is more than compensated by her close relationship with President Barack Obama.

“I thought it was a cliché that when one door closes, another opens,” McCaskill said. “It’s not.”

As the News-Leader’s Didi Tang put it, the commencement speech fit nicely with McCaskill’s Twitter addiction — more than 140 characters, but only about 10 minutes long.

But even the blogging techno-savvy senators told graduates there is a time to put down the BlackBerry.

“LOL will never be the same as a good belly laugh,” she said.

Don’t worry Claire, we’ll end your political career soon enough… 2010 both you and you Messiah will have to answer for the TRILLIONS is debt you’ve piled on to our children and grandchildren.

Yeah Claire, you and that cliche’. Remember how you failed to answer questions in KC when you decided to run for Auditor, “will you serve a full term before running for Governor?” You didn’t answer yes or no. Well we know the answer. You’re a ladder climber. You’ll hitch your wagon to the hot buzz of the day. I used to have respect for her. No more. ‘12 can’t happen fast enough for me when we get the chance to bounce her and Barry out of office.

tsquat: bwaaaahhhhh!!!

Re: Claire - That LOL joke is pretty good. I was at the Grant Writing and Economic Development conference the Senator hosted Friday at UMSL and she was funny there too. Media missed a great story at that conference, the Touhill was almost completely packed, including both balconies.

Gets it:
“you … will have to answer for the TRILLIONS is debt you’ve piled on to our children and grandchildren.”

Doesn’t get it:
“That LOL joke is pretty good … and she was funny.”

Note that the mindless liberal can never ever make a point w/o pointless name calling. It’s pathological on their part… they must demonize those that don’t agree with them.

Also note… phooey spent the day (trying) to learn how to suckle at the government teet (grant writing) rather than actually going out and earning a living.

Because you rightwingnutballs hate her proves she is a tremendous Senator.
You are afraid of anyone unlike you.
We’re so grateful that there are so few.

“… it is Bush’s fault.”
“What’ll it be chump?”
“This is exactly what I’d expect from you”
“our constitution guarantees the right of choice”
“CodePink & Obama, AIG and Dodd?”
“All you right wing wacko’s, Neo Nazi’s and anarchists here should thank the ACLU”
“Slither

“Because you rightwingnutballs hate her”

There’s only so many ways a Liberal can express their love…

Jeeze…..will you stop please!! An Indie here who is just sick and tired of the same ole same ole from you partisan dems and repubs. For way too long you have pointed fingers blaming each other while our country is going down the tubes. It’s time to stop the BS and get to work on those issues which affect us……..the economy, the war, the environment, unfair taxation, jobs and on and on.

To the dems……..take care of business…..you’re in power now so use it and get us back to a reality based future……by that I mean one based on science………not religion. Our economy is in turmoil, our environment is in danger……..mother earth is in danger so stop bickering with each other and the repubs and let’s roll up our sleeves and get the jobs done.

To the repubs……you had your opportunity and you blew it big time. Find the common ground with the dems and get to work for the country and not just your party base….In Missouri…..put up a moderate repub and make it a race for the other senate seat….

To Senator McCaskill…….you’re doing a good job…….keep it up. But don’t expect us who support you to support the dems candidate for the other senate seat….
