Roy Blunt goes on endorsement tour for Senate campaign
JEFFERSON CITY — After getting hammered over his poor fund-raising showing in the first quarter, U.S. Senate candidate Roy Blunt is seeking to change the momentum by announcing the support of Missouri’s Republican elite.
First, earlier today, Blunt, the Republican congressman from Springfield, announced he had the endorsement of 71 members of the Missouri House. Then he announced a campaign event tour on Friday with events in Cape Girardeau, Kansas City, and Columbia.
Blunt will be joined by U.S. Sen. Kit Bond at each stop, the man he hopes to replace. Bond is expected to endorse Blunt at the events, which would send a clear signal to Republicans who have been wondering whether former Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman would get into the race.
The winner of the Republican primary, if there is one, will face likely Democratic nominee Robin Carnahan, the Missouri Secretary of State. Carnahan nearly doubled up Blunt in first quarter fund-raising, causing some national pundits to suggest she had the upper hand in the race.
Roll Call reported this week that Blunt’s fortunes might be turning around as he snagged key GOP fund-raisers.
Ironically, Steelman’s husband, David, recently penned an op-ed criticizing the Republican establishment in Missouri.
In Cape Girardeau, Blunt will be joined by Republican congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson, who did not endorse either Steeman or Kenny Hulshof in the most recent Republican primary for governor.
Blunt’s schedule follows:

Blunt will be making a huge mistake if he continues to ignore St. Louis like he is doing tomorrow. It may just have to do with a scheduling conflict, but if I was him I would make my best attempt to make it to St. Louis as opposed to Kansas City. Even though St. Louis goes Democrat, it is still the largest block of Republican and Independent voters (much than even KC) in the state. If he thinks he can win based on the rest of the state, he doesn’t stand any chance.
Appearing with Kit Bond, will do little to gain any votes for Roy Blunt that he didn’t already have. (I wonder if they’ll go to the Kit Bond Bridge in KC?) Why would the party insiders expect a different result with Blunt than they got with Hulsof? Talk about tuned out!!
Hey Mo. Republicans, wake up! Remember the conference a couple of weeks ago about rebuilding the party with a new platform, image, and ideas? YOU THINK FRIGGIN’ ROY BLUNT REPRESENTS THE NEW FUTURE FOR REPUBLICANS? If you do, you’re idiots. I’d vote for Gov. Blago before I’d vote for Blunt Trauma.
Ah, yes…the Blunt “tour” otherwise known as the trek from K Street to Your Street, or better, the road to Nowhere.
Really…haven’t the Republicants anyone better to offer up than this pathetic anachronism??
The GOP fails to relate to human beings, and once again, they have elevated one of their own to continue their mockery of leadership. Don’t they realize that they have universally disgusted the majority of Missourians? Just look at how the House of Reps has conducted business the last few weeks. Alcohol, lobbyists, parties, you name it. Yet have they done anything for the less fortunate during this same timeframe? Nope. They show nothing but consistent disdain for the poor, disabled, children, women, middle class, and the elderly. But they seem to like each other and French bike race people.
