For some politicians, public service is a family business. Many follow in their father’s footsteps, or consider pop their chief mentor and advisor.

Mayor Francis Slay grew up watching his father, veteran Democratic Committeeman Francis R. Slay, call the shots in the 23rd Ward. While in office, former Mayor Freeman Bosley Jr. had his own father on the Board of Aldermen, a position Freeman Bosley Sr. continues to hold.

Statewide, the fathers and sons of the Blunt and Carnahan clans have served Missouri in no less than a half-dozen different elected offices. In Illinois, the Madigans have made the most of the ouster of their political rival, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

So who is your favorite political family tandem? In honor of Father’s Day, register your vote below.

Political royalty is killing this country and should be voted out at every opportunity.

You should’ve included Russ and Mel Carnahan in the poll.

Where is the Carnahan clan? Mel may be gone, but he certainly is not forgotten.

Mel Carnahan was the son in his dynasty, not the father. The patriarch was Mel’s father, 8-term congressman A.S.J. Carnahan.

Roy Blunt is also the son in his dynasty, but he was still the founder. The father, Leroy Blunt, didn’t get elected until after his son Roy had won several elections.

I think the Carnahans get enough praise in the Post. They even had a story about their horse, which I am sure will be filing for office soon.

Purhaps we should consider the magnitude of a positive father and son relationship, before we just pull names from our owed favors hate to mention. I can take a look around the north side in the 3rd ward and see first hand the failure of the Bosley duo. They didn’t fail us on their own, they had help from the father and son families that you praise and/or honor in your article. I submit to you this, I would vote for none of the above, and maybe if we would limit the terms of these so called favored son’s and fathers our city could prosper for all of its citizens. Oh yeah, please don’t dishonor our dedicated father’s and son’s on their weekend to be honored, by grouping them with politicians that fall well short of honor, dignity and ethics that a real father has toward his son, community, and home life, and certainly not with an alderman who’s definition of being a father is making mother’s out of young girls, destroying their lives and leaving broken homes to identify his existence. Sad! We are in need of a reality check!Happy Fathers Day to all our real dads! We honor you!
