Legislature’s stimulus panel to hold first meeting in St. Louis
The Missouri Legislature’s joint committee on stimulus spending will hold its first hearing 10 a.m. Monday at the Wainwright state office building in downtown St. Louis.
The new committee “will study ways to maximize the amount of federal funds received” and “provide oversight to ensure that the funds are properly spent,” according to release sent today.
The ten-member committee has six Republicans and four Democrats, split evenly from the House and Senate side.
Looking at the roster, membership seems to be also equally divided between urban, suburban, and rural members, which could frame an interesting debate about the best place for stimulus dollars.
Several senators from the St. Louis area are on the committee: Scott T. Rupp, Eric Schmitt, Jeff Smith and Robin Wright-Jones.
From the House side, Wildwood’s Allen Icet – chair of the Budget Committee — is also on the panel.
Lawmakers will pick a chairman at their meeting Monday.
