MIAC’s the word at Capitol hearing on Wednesday

JEFFERSON CITY — Rep. Bob Dixon better have his dancing shoes on tomorrow.

The Springfield Republican — who is running for state senate — is chairing a committee that has the stated purpose of getting to the bottom of the controversy over the political profiling done in Missouri’s “fusion center” known as MIAC.

Earlier this year, Republicans and libertarians (and other third-party types), ripped the MIAC for issuing a report that said that some right-wing militia types might also be supporters of fringe presidential candidates such as Bob Barr, Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin. The one-time presidential candidates asked for an apology and got one. The report got changed, then pulled back. The MIAC director got moved to a new job.

But the political criticism had its own fallout. Libertarians criticized Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder for trying to take political advantage of the situation. (Kinder criticized Gov. Jay Nixon even though the report was worked on under the previous governor, and the MIAC had issued dozens of similar reports discussion all sorts of groups, from the left and the right).

And one of the elements of the report that was under fire — its criticism of radical anti-abortion activists — turned out to be prophetic if you consider the recent murder of Dr. George Tiller.

So, how will Dixon handle that minefield?

Will be very interesting to watch. The hearing starts at 2 p.m. in hearing room 3 of the Capitol.

How is MIAC treated homegrown black Muslims who go to Yemen to train to kill Americans and then shoot an innocent soldier on U.S. soil thus incurring our first Muslim terrorist act since 9-11?
Which case is scarier?

Which case has gotten more press coverage and which murder case has gotten more P-D blog coverage, the killer of Dr.Tiller the killer or the black Muslim that killed a U.S. soldier? I rest my case.

Tony would be telling us how ’statesman like’ the Chairman would be in holding these hearings… if the Chairman were a Democrat. If they held hearings.

What Tony did was telegraph his punch… he told us… long before the hearings started… how he was going to report the story. Make Bob Dixon look the part of a fool.

What a guy!

I wonder how Dixon’ll handle it?
For all the howling and posturing by the right wing over the recent MIAC report that said that some right-wing militia types could cause potential problems, and then to have their concerns realized and come true with the murder of Doctor Tiller, what will be Dixon’s strategy? Good point.
And, Tony, realize Centrist will not be happy until the Post Dispatch stops publishing and Tsquare is, well, Tsquare. Please consider their constant complaining as typical of these two.
Thanks for the information, Tony. Keep us informed.

Knuckles, you don’t find it just a wee bit interesting that Mr. Messenger chose to highlight the Tiller case but completely failed to mention the terrorist that murdered Private Long in Little Rock?

Bet 100 bucks that people know of the Tiller incident at about 1000 to 1 over the Long incident….

Both acts equally tragic, yet one gets constant play and the other gets merely a mention…

Amazedbythelunacy, you don’t find it just a wee bit interesting that you chose to highlight the Private Long in Little Rock case but completely failed to mention the terrorist that murdered the policemen in Washington DC hours before your post?

Bet 100 bucks that people know of the Private Long in Little Rock incident at about 1000 to 1 over the Washington D.C. Holocaust Museum incident….

Both acts equally tragic, yet one gets constant play from you and the other gets merely a mention…

Kind of hypocritical, aren’t you?

What a fool. The article on which we are commenting was posted on 6/9. The incident at the Holocaust Museum occurred on 6/10. How would you expect Mr. Messenger to know about it before it happened?

Both Tiller and Long were murdered several days ago. The former is a hero and a martyr the latter is barely news in the eyes of the media.

Despicable.

Both Tiller and Long were murdered several days ago, but the heroic policeman was mudered several hours before your post. Check your time, jerk (5:55 pm June 10th, 2009).

Despicable.
Absolutley Despicable.

Time line of to follow:

–At 1:53 on June the 9th, Tony Messenger posted his story on this Post Dispatch blog about Rep. Bob Dixon, an Illinois Springfeild Republican, was chairing a committee that had the stated it’s purpose of getting to the bottom of the controversy over the political profiling done in Missouri’s by MIAC.

–At 9:07 am June 10th, 2009, the day of the Museum killing, I posted wondering how Rep. Dixon was going to handle this.

–At just before 1 p.m. EST (noon, out time) Wednesday, June 10th, 88-year-old James von Brunn , entered the 14th Street lobby of the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., pulled out the rifle as soon as he walked inside the museum, even before he passed through the magnetometer metal detector in the lobby. 39-year-old security guard Stephen Tyrone Johns, was shot. He died a short time later at a hospital.

–At 5:55 PM, Amazedbythelunacy posted his opinion that the news media was talking little about the Little Rock killing of a armed services recruiting officer but playing up Dr. Tillers murder. Not one word was said about the Holocaust Museum killing of the brave Officer Johns.

–The next morning, today, June 11th, 2009 at 8:45 am I posted mimicking Amazedbythelunacy’s previous day’s post, pointing out he didn’t mention the brave officers murder form the previous day. I said I thought it was little hypocritical.

–Then, at 9:38 am we get this bit of a sophomoric response from the charming Amazedbythelunacy:

What a fool. The article on which we are commenting was posted on 6/9. The incident at the Holocaust Museum occurred on 6/10. How would you expect Mr. Messenger to know about it before it happened?

So you expected me to comment yesterday afternoon on the Holocaust shooting which took place a few hours earlier and which I had no knowledge of at the time? Brilliant!!!

You are a tard dude. You couldn’t respond in a logical or reasoned manner to the question as to why Tiller is martyred but Long forgotten, so you cut and paste yesterday’s posts.

I just don’t get fools like you…..
