Report: Former Talent aide to lead Conn. Senate campaign
St. Louis-based GOP strategist Gregg Keller, who ran Jim Talent’s 2006 Senate campaign, will jump into the fray of a political insurgency in Connecticut, according to the KY3 Political Notebook.
KY3’s David Catanese reports that Keller will lead the Senate campaign of Republican Tom Foley, a businessman and former U.S. ambassador to Ireland.
Foley is challenging embattled Connecticut incumbent Chris Dodd, whose job performance as head of the Senate Banking Committee has been questioned amid the financial meltdown.
Keller worked both in Talent’s campaign and Senate operation. He was also on Mitt Romney’s campaign payroll, and part of George W. Bush’s re-election effort in 2004.
At KY3, Catanese frames Keller’s move east as a setback to perennial speculator Sarah Steelman, who reportedly had Keller close to running her could-be Senate run.

If Dodd wins re-election in Connecticut, it will be further proof that the voting public are indeed idiots. The same goes for Ensign in Nevada.
Gregg Keller is a very smart strategist and Mr. Foley will benefit from his counsel, as Mrs. Steelman would have. Mr. Keller is also a very nice guy and one of the cool people in politics. I just hope they have a spit can handy in the car in Connecticut when he pulls out the Red Man! Don’t be fooled - that Missouri boy is plenty slick!
I also like Gregg and think he is a good guy. Gregg, if the opponent’s spouse has a nursing home empire, I’d find another issue.
One advantage right away - the name of one of Keller’s guy’s GOP rivals appears to be Caligula. Slightly better at this moment than Sanford, but I’m just saying …
