JEFFERSON CITY — State Auditor Susan Montee has a new spokesman but he’s not new to the office.

Glenn Campbell is back in state government, working as director of public affairs for Montee.

For a decade, Campbell was press secretary to Claire McCaskill, who is now a U.S. senator. Campbell started with McCaskill when she was Jackson County prosecutor and followed her through most of her stint as auditor.

In 2005, after McCaskill had lost her race for governor, Campbell became press secretary to U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-St. Louis. Campbell left that position this month to join Montee’s staff.

Campbell said today that his new job will include working with teams doing petition audits sought by community groups and making sure the public can track the stream of federal stimulus funds coming into the state. He is based in St. Louis.

Glenn Campbell is a pro, and Congressman Carnahan’s loss is Auditor Montee’s gain. Good move, auditor!

I’ve known Glenn for years dating back to KC, he was always helpful to me and became a good friend. For those who don’t know, Glenn’s late mother Helen was the personnel director at KMOX in the Robert Hyland days.

What a great hire! Campbell is very good at what he does. I am sure the Carnahan organization will miss him and they have big shoes to fill!

Campbell is a fine public servant who has dedicated his life to serving the people of Missouri. While he could have taken opportunities to make a lot more money as a consultant or a lobbyist, he has chosen time and again to continue to serve the state he has called home for his entire life.

Congratulations to Campbell and to Montee!

I just wish Mr. Campbell had advised Mr. Carnahan to respond to all of the letters from his constituents. Mr. Carnahan does not usually respond. Or at least in my experience. But he does send out junk mail to “Mr SoAndSo” or current resident. Whether you agree or not, at least send out a form letter. If you ignore constituents, it does not go over very well.
