St. Charles County Councilman Paul Wynn, who last December began a job in Iraq with an American military contractor, is home on a three-week vacation and attended his first council meeting of the year Monday night.

Wynn, R-0′Fallon, said he also plans to be at the council’s next session July 13 before heading back to Iraq. He works there for DynCorp International as an adviser to Iraqi officials on distributing supplies to the Iraqi military.

He said he still expects now he’ll be in Iraq through the end of the year “unless something else comes up job-wise” or if DynCorp cuts back for some reason.

Although Monday was Wynn’s first “in person” participation in a council meeting this year, he’s used the Internet and cell phones to take part from afar in various other council sessions and to keep in touch with issues and constituent inquiries.

However, state law bars him from voting by phone in most cases.

Wynn was first elected in April 2007 to fill a vacancy, then re-elected to a full term last November. About two weeks later, he says, DynCorp contacted him about the job in Iraq. Wynn is an Army veteran of both the Iraq and Persian Gulf wars.

He joined the council Monday in passing bills to expand mandatory septic tank inspections in unincorporated areas and to allow the hunting of edible mushrooms in county parks.

This is not only the his first attended meeting of the year. He missed the last three meetings in 2008. This is not right allowing him to keep the elected position and work on a job outside the country. He has no idea what’s going on in St. Charles County, especially in light of his written remarks about Workforce Development. He said that there is no shortage of jobs in St. Charles County, only a surplus of people looking for a handout. Put this guy and Cynthia Davis in the same category: out of touch.

According to the law, a service member of the Guard or reserve who is called to active duty cannot be terminated from their job while on active duty. SO as long as his term of service hasn’t expired he has every reason to expect his job to be there when he returns.

While it is a strange situation with the elected official. The issue would be properly handled at the next election if he choose to run again.

To find out more about this research the Employers support of the Guard and Reserve.

To add to my prior statement, if he is working for another company, he is not protected for his work outside the country and can be subjected to a vote of impeachment.

Wynn has done more in his short life than the oouch potato heads unrepresented in the 4th and dr debunk have done combined in theirs. Wynn on his worst day is better than these two on their best days.

to TV1photog:
You are talking about a completley different situation. Mr Wynn is a member of the MO National Guard, but his trip to Iraq and the work he is doing over there has NOTHING to do with the National Guard. He is working for a private contractor that is being paid for by US tax dollars. Private contractors like Blackwater, Halliburton and Dyncorp are NOT the military and the mercenaries who work for them are hired hands and the income they make over there is tax free. And all the while Mr. Wynn is collecting health insurance for his family from the county government.
He should not continue in office, he should have dropped out of the campaign when he found out he was going to be gone for a year.
