Talent, Kinder endorse Blunt for U.S. Senate

Two prominent Republicans today endorsed the bid of U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt for the U.S. Senate.

The Associated Press reported that former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder announced their support for the Congressman’s campaign.

Blunt is trying to replace U.S. Sen. Christopher Bond, a Republican who is retiring when his term ends in early 2011. On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is seeking the seat.

The endorsements were anticipated. Reporter Jake Wagman said in an earlier post on Political Fix that Talent was to join the Blunt bandwagon and Kinder as well would be at the former senator’s announcement in Frontenac.

Talent’s and Kinder’s backing shows that Blunt thus far has been successful in clearing the way to the party nomination in August 2010 without significant opposition.

Recently, former State Department official and Washington University professor Tom Schweich announced a decision not to run for the Senate seat. Schweich’s mentor, former U.S. Sen. John Danforth, also is behind Blunt.

Wagman also has reported that former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, another potential Republican contender for the Senate, is considering running for Blunt’s current U.S. House seat.

If one definition of news is reporting on the unexpected, this item falls short of the mark. Who else were these establishment Missouri Republicans going to endorse?

I suppose the next “endorsement” for Blunt will come from John Ashcroft, and it will be promoted breathlessly as if it’s a surprise. In fact, Ashcroft and Blunt are old friends from their earliest political days in Springfield, and they have been in lock-step for decades.

I’ll wait for some actual campaign news now.

There is absolutely no original reporting in this “news” item. It’s good to see that no one at the Post could be bothered to take a little time out of their Saturday to actually cover this event, or provide video, or give us even a quote from anyone mentioned in the blog. Keep up the good “work”.

No Talent and “I redecorated four times” Kinder have endorsed the guy who cheated on his wife and married the lobbyist from Big Tobacco? What a sur-prise! Gee, what are they going to run on, family values?

There’s nothing newsworthy about this, except to you reporters so you can still yuk-it-up with the politicos. Wake me up when a Repblican endorses a Democrat, and vice versa.

It looks like the first post was prescient. I hear on the radio that John Ashcroft is speaking at Joplin and Springfield events Monday on behalf of Roy Blunt. A fine opportunity for reporters to finally get some news by getting Ashcroft’s reaction to Roy Blunt leaving the faithful wife who raised his kids so he could marry a younger woman who lobbied for Big Tobacco in Washington. Now that’s family values!

I was witness to a miracle last night.
I was watching the news and the deceased Munchkin Mickey Carroll from
the Wizard of Oz was answering questions from reporters.

My wife said, “That’s not Mickey Carroll…. that’s Roy Blunt.

Meanwhile, Robin Carnahan is running PSA’s in Western Missouri and sending out mailers under the cover of the Sec. State Office. This reminds me of Custer’s Last Stand. The Old Boys Network is preparing for a “last stand”. Family values? Maybe, John Ensign will come to Missouri and stump for Roy. And I’m sure Bush owes Roy for his help in WRECKING the economy and giving us TWO wars without end, so maybe he can get “W”s endorsement as well.
