Talent, left, and Roy Blunt

Roy Blunt’s campaign for Senate has called a press conference for tomorrow in Frontenac where the Republican is poised to add another prominent name to his endorsement roster.

Blunt will be joined by former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent, who seems ready to back Blunt’s campaign against Democrat Robin Carnahan.

Talent served in the Senate himself from 2002 to 2007, winning his abbreviated term by defeating Robin’s mother, Jean Carnahan.

Talent’s support comes shortly after former State Department official and Washington University professor Tom Schweich backed out of Senate speculation. Schweich’s mentor, another former Senator, John Danforth, also decided to line up behind Blunt.

Even perennial GOP iconoclast Sarah Steelman may have found a compromise, entertaining a run for Blunt’s current U.S. House seat, instead of challenging him for the Senate nomiation.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, the GOP’s only statewide elected official in Jefferson City, is also set to be at Saturday’s announcement.

Wow, Talent is pretty much my favorite Republican - him getting behind Blunt is huge to me. One great conservative backing another, methinks!

Talent is awesome. If he feels strongly enough about Roy to actually come out and endorse him, that’s all I need to know.

Why would anyone in the GOP even bother taking on Blunt? He’s a great choice, he’s got the backing of everyone who matters, and he’s the strongest candidate by far.

Well, nevermind, I guess the only people thinking about it still are crazy people like Cowboy Purgason. On to the general election!

You don’t get much better in terms of conservative bona fides than Talent. Dude doesn’t sell out, if he’s backing Blunt, its legit. I already thought Roy was a great choice, but this just makes it a no brainer.

an awful lot of praise for someone who lost his last re-election bid. I don’t see this as accomplishing anything other then strengthening the conservative support, who was already going to work for Blunt anyway. But maybe it helps with fundraising?
Either way, Missouri is decided by middle of the road folks, and the last time they had the option of voting for Talent, they didn’t.

Party unity equals Democratic victory. Can’t wait for all the pictures of Bush, Abramhoff and Delay to show up. Thanks GOP!

Yeah, losing a very close Senate race in 2006 during the giant Democratic tide sure is an indication of Talent’s worth, isn’t it? Frankly, the fact that he didn’t get completely wiped out in that year is a sign of his strength.

I think after several years of Claire “Live shot” McClaskill a lot of those voters would like to go back in time and vote with their heads this time.

Talent was a great Senator, he is well respected, and this endorsement will help Blunt both within the GOP and with Independents.

Dude, please. Lets get some pictures with Robin Carnahan and her ACORN buddies, maybe? Speaking of Senators rejected by Missouri voters, how about JEAN Carnahan? Do we really want more of that level of incompetence back in Washington? Princess Robin has a lot of dirty things to talk about that nobody in Missouri has heard yet - expect that squeeky shine to wear off real quick when voters get to know her better.

Wow!! It’s well over a year before we even have a primary election and the Republican establishment has told us that they cannot conceive the possibility of a better candidate than Roy Blunt.

Endorsements should be provided to the best candidate; not the first to enter, and surely not to the only one running.

Do any other Republicans feel disenfranchised? The “establishment” selected the winner long before the race began.
