No better soldier than John Danforth. This must have been very painful if not humiliating for him. I have never seen him look more pained or less happy. The king is dead, long live the king, I guess. Now if he could just admit the perjurying Clarence Thomas was a mistake and ask him to resign, we’d all feel a lot better. I watched/listened to every word of those hearings (of that sociopath Robert Bork, too), and it wasnt just that why would an attorney like Anita Hill just make up those stories? What is more believable, that she’d fabricate something to keep off a justice she didnt like, or that he’d like to protect himself from believable allegations that would sink his nomination and his life. It wasnt just that. There is more that I may have been one of the few to notice. Remember how he said that he had not given Roe v Wade any thought? Well, that’s just incredible on its face since that would make him the only adult, let alone only attorney who didnt; but when Anita was asked what they talked about in his kitchen when she’d drive him home (or was it the other way around), she said one of the things they discussed was Roe v Wade. Game set match on perjury if you ask me. She wouldnt just manufacture that little detail; she didnt manufacture anything. The only ones who believed him were the ones who what they really believed was his ideology.

Sen. Danforth should have just said nothing. Pity.
