Allen Icet to Thomas Schweich: Look at my endorsements
JEFFERSON CITY — As I wrote on the mother ship this morning, state Rep. Allen Icet, R-Wildwood, planned to take some of Thomas Schweich’s thunder today with an announcement that he had about 80 House members endorsing his run for auditor.
Schweich is announcing his bid for the Republican nomination in a two-day flyaround starting in St. Louis this morning.
Icet, the House budget chair, is also running. This morning he released a list of 81 House Republicans and two state Senators (Sen. Jim Lembke, R-Lemay, and Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau), who are endorsing his run.
Schweich hasn’t yet announced any endorsements, though he’s likely to have former U.S. Sen. John C. Danforth on his side, and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder sent out a letter introducing the Washington University law professor to key Republicans last week. The state’s top Republicans, including Roy Blunt and Sen. Kit Bond, helped negotiate Schweich’s decision not to run against Blunt in a Senate primary.
It’s very early in the primary process, of course, particularly for a down-ticket race. (Perhaps that’s why Icet referred to Rep. Anne Zerr, R-St. Charles, and Rep Don Ruzicka, R-Mt. Vernon, as Democrats in his news release. Oops.
Missing from Icet’s list? Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-O’Fallon, who has said she might ride her recent bout of publicity to an auditor’s run herself.
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat incumbent Susan Montee.

Cynthia “Let them eat McDonalds” Davis will make a great State Auditor. Cynthia knows first-hand the intricacies of politicians using campaigns funds for personal use.
“If I’m from a monkey, I might as well act like a monkey.”
Well stated Ms. Davis.
PS..Schweich, you’re being pushed around by party operatives like a 2 year old in a Wal-Mart shopping cart.
This is some serious sleaziness by Icet - serving as the House Appropriations Committee chairman through the 2010 legislative session, it’s quite easy to frighten state lawmakers into publicly embracing you in exchange for consideration of state funding for favored causes. And woe betide a GOP House member who comes out against Icet in the auditor’s primary. They won’t get a dime in state money for their district if Icet controls the appropriating.
Allen Icet’s tenacious. I think he’d make a good Auditor. Seems like his budget work is a good fit for that kind of broad-scope, ‘here’s your path forward’ type of leadership.
wow, lookout Montee…I don’t know that she is going to be able to stand by the end of this race!
SillyTilley = sleaze
Only explanation for a post that purports to know why these people endorsed Icet yet demonstrates that the poster knows nothing at all.
I love the headline of the post “look at my endorsements”.
Isn’t one of the first things you learn at campaign camp that yard signs and endorsments do not vote?
That said, please oh please let Cynthia run. Only so my friends and I can show up as various McDonalds characters (Mayor McCheese, the Hamburgler) at her campaign events.
