Ashcroft’s no-bid deal an issue in N.J. governor’s race

A lucrative no-bid contract awarded to John Ashcroft by a former colleague in the U.S. Justice Department has become opposition fodder in the New Jersey governor’s race.

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat feeling the heat in the Garden State, highlights the arrangement in an ad attacking his opponent, Republican Christopher J. Christie , the state’s former U.S. Attorney.

While U.S. Attorney, Christie gave a deal worth up to $52 million to The Ashcroft Group, the consulting firm run by the former Missouri governor and senator who later served as U.S. Attorney General.

Ashcroft’s firm was given what’s called a monitoring contract, designed to keep tabs on companies that have out-of-court settlements with the Justice Department. The fees come from the company being monitored; in Ashcroft’s case, that was Indiana-based medical supply firm Zimmer Holdings.

Zimmer had drawn the scrutiny of Christie’s office for giving consultant fees to doctors that used their surgical products - a potential violation of anti-kickback laws.

The Republican party is corrupt at it core it just keeps screaming that the Democrats are Socialists. The facts are the Republicans opened up China while American forces were under attack from China. China has not stopped attacking the United States or its interest it just finds it much easier. The Republicans also supported NAFTA placing a knife in the back of American labor. See Labor is a bad word to these Republicans they wish to make us all Communist slaves. They support funding Russia with it tons of nuclear weapons pointed right at the United States. They continue to attempt to disparage the rights of Americans with forced labor, they claim their socialist friends the Nazi party have free speech rights that empower them to commit crimes. It never is going to end until we remove these people as the Tories they are. Stand up to this menace today.

M. Mullarkey….Of course you’re a Socialist. Why can’t 16 former Bush administration officials, including Ashcroft and Chernoff, profit from the deaths of 3,000 Americans….Homeland Security is a money maker. What do you have against capitalism?
The corporate Republican party now specializes in “Orange Alert” lobbying.
Ashcroft learned how to navigate K-Street from Tom Delay.
Delay’s PACs raised millions.
Including the PAC…”Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Government”.

“Ashcroft” = foam at the mouth… at least for some folks out there.

A contract goes to a company… a contract that contains NOT ONE CENT OF GOVERNMENT MONEY (see the story above: “The fees come from the company being monitored”) and GOP ‘corruption’ is screamed!

How is that exactly?

“No Bid” you say? Fine… but with no money coming from the government.. ie: no cost to the tax payer do we NEED a low bidder? The “bad guys” must pay the bills on this one. Do we want or need to see that they are getting a ‘good deal’? If so… how?

You two… need to get a clue… Corzine has one… he’s in such deep trouble he’s already throwing everything he can think of at Christie… even crap like this.

So…
If a private [corrupt] company is cited by the U.S Department of Justice and the corrupt scab company is required to pay fines to the U.S Treasury… then a U.S. Attorney can hire his former boss and friend to monitor the payments to the U.S government….for a mere $52 million.

No questions. No bids.

Hey, works for me…..Typical Republican manuevering.

What’s this I hear? A union official earning over $90G and driving a company car on personal business????
Bunch of corrupt thugs. What’s the name of that U.S. Attorney?
This certainly calls for a racketering investigation.
Bunch of union hacks. somebody get Ashcroft on the phone.
This is serious.

I’m no pal of Ashcroft’s, but I wonder why you folks aren’t equally outraged at the money being shoveled at ACORN by the Obama administration.

Regardless of the fact that this money isn’t coming from the government it still appears to be a deal made through relationship. Government contracts should never be awarded as such but only through a bidding process made up of qualified companies. I bet you still believe there is truly such thing as free enterprise? It hasn’t been truly that way for a very long time in this country, this entire country is perverted and just about every business deal and everything else concerning business and making money in this country and success is not based on how smart, talented or good you are but who you know and willing to make a deal with.

The biggest question is why does it cost $52 million dollars for any Law Firm to monitor anything? That’s more of interest to me than Ashcroft’s law firm even getting the contract.
