Club owner says no to smoking ban, yes to “Freedom City”
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ST. LOUIS — Mike “Talayna” Faille, owner of Mike Talayna’s Juke Box Restaurant on Hampton, testified this afternoon against the smoking ban at a City Hall hearing.
The hearing, as of this writing, is still going — and could be for a while.

I agree with him, but wear a suit next time. Folks need to learn some manners.
Cut off sleeves and shorts is really all the aldermen deserve.
Count me as a city resident that is considering moving back to NYC or Chicago because I’m so sick of the smoke-filled bars.
Do smokers really care so little about their fellow human beings that they think it’s such a burden to smoke outside? Is that really so much to ask?
Come on, STL, move into the 21st century already.
btw, “Freedom City”. WTF? how about the freedom to breathe, does that not count? or do only smokers (20% of the population) get the “freedom” to kill their fellow citizens.
Dirt McGirt
I don’t like coming home from a restaurant smelling like an ashtray, nor do I like exposing my children to intense second-hand smoke. Fortunately, there are a great many restaurants out there which do not permit smoking. So I don’t feel the need to tell thousands of businessmen, many of whom have invested more in their restaurants than I earn in several years, that they can’t permit smoking in their own private businesses.
First of all, put some clothes on. I doubt anyone wants to see your arm pits.
Second, second hand smoke is harmful to others. Period. Outside can be the smoking section as you referenced in your speech.
Third, your little bar will always be packed from 1 - 3 am as it is the only establishment close to Clayton that is open that late. I wouldn’t worry about it. People don’t got there to smoke. They go there to drink more.
Fourth, if every other city in this world can put a ban on smoking, I do not understand why St. Louis cannot. NYC, LA, Miami, Paris, Chicago, Columbia, Missouri for God’s sake!…the list goes on and on…people will move on. Smoking kills - end of story.
Dear Mike “Fail”, Even though you have some of the best pizza in the area, allow me to cross your restaurant off our family’s list of potential places to eat. Racanelli’s is closer and their pizza is better anyway, coupons too.

Good. Then leave wimp. If you’re considering moving because of a smoking law then you live a sad life. Nobody makes you got to bars. If you want a smoke free environment then go on down to applebees and sit in the non-smoking section or outside. It’s just as easy for you to go elsewhere as it is for the alderman to ban smoking.
America people, land of the FREE and home of the brave.
djplanb…there are flights every hour to Chicago. Good riddance.Don”t let the door hit you in the as# on the way ouy.
