Though it wasn’t quite a scream, former presidential candidate Howard Dean has sounded a slightly sour note about getting less money from Southeast Missouri State University than Newt Gingrich for a forum on healthcare.

Dean, the former governor of Vermont and chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Gingrich, who led the “Republican Revolution” in the U.S. House, will square off Oct. 28 at the Cape Girardeau school.

According to the Southeast Missourian newspaper, Gingrich will receive $58,450 for the appearance.

Dr. Dean’s haul? Twenty-seven thousand dollars, or $31,000 less than Gingrich.

In Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, Dean said he was at a loss for the disparity.

“There’s nothing I can do about it, as I found out,” Dean told interviewer Deborah Solomon. “I think the only thing that makes me feel a little bit better about that is that it’s the most expensive event that Southeast Missouri has ever done — and it’s not my fault.”

Tell that to the student body — whose activity fees are paying for the event.

I wouldn’t pay a nickel for the opinions of either one of these goof-balls. Pity the poor SEMO students whose dollars are being wasted to hear a couple of political has-beens.

The College Republicans brought Phyllis Schlafly to UM-St. Louis to debate Dr. Joyce Mushaben a few years ago. Dr. Mushaben volunteered without knowing Schlafly was paid $5-$10k. When she learned Shlafly was not also volunteering her time, she tried to get the College Republicans to make a small donation to her program’s scholarship fund. They refused. Mushaben was a good sport though and summarily trounced Schlafly (even CR’s admit as much) by using facts instead of blind ideological rantings.

Howard Dean isn’t worth half that.

Keep in mind we’re talking about Cape Giradeau, Missouri.
The Board of Curators at SEMO would probably pay David Duke $90,000.

It’s typical that Dean is getting 27 grand for one night of talking and he’s crying because someone else is getting more. Hey Howard, you are getting 27g’s for showing up. STFU already.

I wouldn’t pay a wooden nickel to hear either of them speak.

Garrison, read the damn article. They paid James Carville and Arianna Huffington to speak at Cape, Douchebag.

Hey Garrison, did you graduate high school in the bottom 5 percent of your class? Because your posts sure show like you were the class clown. Then again, you probably have a PhD from the, “Never let facts get in the way of a good opinion,” School of Liberal Thought.
