Buehrle is embraced by teammates

Why were all of those guys huddled around the television at your office this afternoon?

They were watching Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle — a St. Charles native and 1997 graduate of Francis Howell North — pitch only the 18th perfect game in Major League history.

According to Politico, the performance got the attention of the White House. Politico’s Amie Parnes reports that Obama plans to place a call to Buehrle to congratulate him on the historic performance.

Though Obama may have called any player who achieved the landmark feat, it’s a virtual sure thing if the pitcher is from the Southside — Obama is a diehard Sox fan, showing his team loyalty at the All-Star Game with a jacket that may have contributed to some of the mixed response he got from the St. Louis crowd.

Buehrle, though, received only applause when he was introduced as an All-Star at Busch Stadium.

Do your research- I saw nothing that said the President actually saw the game. Maybe someone on his staff told him or he happened to catch the highlight tapes on ESPN. Do you think that’s a possibility?

For those who thought the President was watching the game cf. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090723&content_id=6020998&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws

And for those who want to criticize the “Cominskey” by providing a link that misspells “Comiskey” commiskey, well consider your nits picked.

Sheesh, it was a perfect game, that is worth the call.
