Fund raising begins in 14th District state Senate race
University City Mayor Joe Adams raised from April through June nearly four times as much money than State Rep. Theodore “Ted” Hoskins, D-Berkeley, a competitor for the Democratic nomination for state senator from the 14th district, campaign finance reports show.
But Hoskins has more money available because he brought to the state Senate race money from his past state House ones. He has $36,280.04 in his campaign war chest.
Adams has obtained $16,435 all in the reporting period of April 1 to June 30. He reported spending nothing thus far. Hoskins said he has raised $4,225 and spent $933.85 in the same reporting period.
Former State Rep. Esther Haywood, D-Bellerive, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the state Senate seat, filed a statement saying she had not received or spent more than $500 between last Oct. 1 and June 30.
The candidates recently filed the campaign finance reports with the state ethics commission.
Donating to Adams’s campaign were developers Hutkin Development Co. and an affiliate of developer Joe Edwards.
Contributing to Adams’s campaign were former University City Mayor Janet Majerus; former St. Louis Mayor Vincent Schoemehl; retired University City City Manager Frank Ollendorff; Jeff Rainford, chief of staff for St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay; Schnuck Markets Inc. and Vintage Vinyl.
The campaign committee for St. Louis Alderman Lyda Krewson, D-28th Ward, made a donation.
Hoskins received a contribution from 80th legislative district committee. Most of his spending was for a phone bank.

Joe has done an incredible job in turning not only the loop around but University City. He’s easily the most qualified candidate.
I’ve lived in U City for 3 years, 2 while going to Wash U and another year after I graduated and from what I’ve seen University City has come A LONG way. I’ve never met Joe Adams but if he can do for the district what he did for U. City then we will all be living in a better place.
Joe’s the right guy for the job. No doubt in my mind.
Are you joking, U-city isn’t turned around, it’s riddled with crime. How many people including a cop have been killed in the past 24 months? I don’t want a mayor who is weak on crime being our Senator!
The UCity Police department is the hardest working PD in the State of Missouri, look it up Jim. Last time I checked the crime rates have gone down, violent crimes are down, and the loop is flourishing.
That is messed up that you would bring Detective King into this discussion and blame it on Joe Adams. That is seriously messed up Jim. You should be ashamed of yourself. Superman could have been mayor and Detective King didn’t stand a chance.
The fact you brought that up makes me sick.
Jimbo whoa their brother, pump the brakes on your feeble attempted hatchet job. Missouri and America need honest hard working experienced leaders like Mayor Adams now more than ever after we were left in this morass by the past eight years of blind power grabbing and lining the pockets of the wealthy. Now is the time to pick each other up and give back through public service to help improve education, public safety, and our struggling economy. Now is not the time for the politics of personal destruction. Peace out Jimbo.
If the Loop is flourishing it’s because of Joe EDWARDS, not Adams. Or should I say in spite of Adams?
Is someone snorting again? There’s another story here, Phil.
Schnucks — Special easement ordinance
Scheomehl — $50 bucks is hard core support
Vintage Vinyl — $8,000 dollars worth of check written to them by the City of University City
Jeff Rainford — Obvious
Frank Ollendorff — Can we talk about his retirement package from the city after 27 years?
Phil, do a better job. Be an investigative reporter!
Oh, don’t forget the Husch connection. $1,000’s in 2007.
Cheesy,
You forgot about Mike Giger and eminent domain use in University City in the 1990’s.
