Jet lag? Not for Gov. Jay Nixon, who fresh after returning from an overseas visit to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will test his athletic prowess in the annual Show-Me State Games.

A release from the governor’s office today tells us that Nixon on Saturday will compete in the basketball skills competition — free throws and perimeter shots — for the Show-Me Games, an amateur sports exhibition that brings athletes from all over.

Nixon, 53, will enter the senior division.  The competition will be held at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, next door from where the governor cheers his beloved Mizzou Tiger basketball team.

Closer to home, State Sen. Jeff Smith will once again host his annual 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament at Fairground Park in St. Louis on Saturday.

Smith played basketball in high school and has made the sport part of his campaign shtick.  While Nixon has a substantial height advantage over Smith, we’re guessing that the senator’s dribbling skills would carry the day if the pair ever went one-on-one.

WTH is with you man crush on Jeff Smith and his basketball game. Sad but true, but you have written more about Smith playing basketball than you have about his accomplishments in the State Senate.

Sad.
