Roy Blunt touts his insider support; Democrats do, too

JEFFERSON CITY — Congressman Roy Blunt wants to make sure he controls the news cycle this quarter.

The Republican from Springfield who is running for U.S. Senate in 2010 took a first quarter beating in the political press in Washington, D.C., and Missouri after Democratic opponent Robin Carnahan doubled him up in fund-raising.

This time, Blunt is touting his success before the dollars have all been counted. Spokesman Rich Chrismer sent a news release today saying that Blunt raised more than $1 million this quarter, which would be about twice what he raised during the campaign’s first three months.

In the release, Blunt continued to tout his big-name endorsers, from outgoing Sen. Kit Bond, to John Ashcroft, Peter Kinder, Jim Talent, Jack Danforth and Jo Ann Emerson.

At the same time, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is noting the same names, but as a criticism of Blunt’s ties to the Washington, D.C., establishment. The DSCC, which has been ramping up its criticism of Blunt, is picking up on a line Sarah Steelman used in criticizing Blunt, calling him “another white guy in a suit.”

At the time, Steelman was considering a primary challenge to Blunt in the Senate race.

The web site asks folks to sign up to receive e-mails from the DSCC, and then they can print out “baseball cards” of the “suits” who support Blunt. In response to the site, Lloyd Smith, executive director of the Missouri Republican Party, said: “Robin Carnahan and the national Democrats want to talk about clothes when our country is facing very serious challenges like a weak economy and the Carnahan-backed national energy tax.”

“another white guy in a suit.”…

-Sounds dangerously close to racism, at least race/gender politics. Oh, but guess it’s OK since Steelman used it first.
-You pin-heads at the P.D. are too easy to read.

-BTW…If you want a REAL story on “controlling the news”, how about the one on the Obama hand-picking who gets called on to ask quesdtions at news conferences, or the other manipulations in orchestrating the press corps?

Roy Blunt does not trust the democratic voting process of the primaries, hence he has tried to “sew up the nomination” by being “anointed”.

I guess the proper comeback is why is it that the Republican Party in Missouri wants to mimic Ahmadinejad’s recent “election” by stuffing their ballot box before the primaries?

Come on MoPubs, you must have some moxie in you somewhere.

Wow, nice done Roy! You know, in reality he had only a short time to raise money in the last quarter, so his amount was short anyway. Really impressed he hauled in a million bucks… no small feat.

So, let me get this straight, the DCCC and the CARNAHAN royal family are attacking Blunt for being an insider?

How does this logic work? Attack a Republican for having establishment Republicans support him, and make that attack with establishment Democrats??!?!?

Huh?

Those in glass houses, Robin.

Has anyone heard ANYTHING from Robin Carnahan on ANY subject in the last several months? Seriously - ANYTHING????

She has her Washington lackeys attack Blunt and gets to call HIM an insider? Good lord.

You gotta love Roy Blunt. He was Mark Sanford before Mark Sanford was Mark Sanford. Blunt publicly humilated his wife who stood by him for years and left her for another woman. What a guy! What family values!

It’s going to be nice watching this guy go down.

Perhaps the DCCC and the Carnahan supporters should just attack Roy Blunt for what he is: the ultimate K Street ho’, philanderer, and posterboy for marital infidelity. BOER!

Rharnack, Is this the high-level, issue-oriented stuff you pretend to provide ??

“ … why is it that the Republican Party in Missouri wants to mimic Ahmadinejad’s recent “election” by stuffing their ballot box…”

Btw, you need to put your periods inside the last quotation mark.

Sheesh, MoPubs are a “sensitive” lot.

Roy Blunt has spent the past few months calling in favors, lining up the party stalwarts as his backers. Then when one suggests that this resembles more an anointing than a race….
