Clayco chief hosts high-dollar event for House Whip Clyburn
St. Louis builder Bob Clark, head of Clayco construction, continues to fuel his political remorse with copious campaign donations.
Clark, now one of the area’s most prominent Democratic contributors, has said his largess is due to regret over having previously supported George W. Bush.
After backing Barack Obama during his campaign, Clark donated $50,000 to the president’s inauguration celebration.
This weekend, Clark will host an event for another out-of-town Democrat, U.S. Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, who, as Majority Whip, is the third-highest ranking member of his party in the House.
Clark and wife Ellen will host a fundraiser this Sunday evening for Clyburn at their Richmond Heights home. Suggested contribution: $10,000 for a “host” and $1,000 for a guest. (The invite suggests that the contributions, to benefit Clyburn’s BRIDGE PAC, can be bundled.)
In addition to the Clarks, the event host committee also includes: veteran political consultant Luther Boykins, State Auditor Susan Montee, Mayor Francis Slay, Congressmen Lacy Clay and Russ Carnahan, State Rep. Mike Talboy, Enterprise exec Ray Wagner, Central West End Alderman Lyda Krewson, KWAME chief Tony Thompson and fundraising whiz Matt Lieberman.
The lead organizer is Anheuser-Busch lobbyist Lewis McKinney – a close friend of Clyburn’s who sits on the board for the Congressional Black Caucus institute.
Both Clark and McKinney sit together on the airport commission.

> his largess is due to regret over having previously supported George W. Bush.
That’s some horrible reasoning, Mr. Clark. Without a doubt, Bush was the 2nd worst President in my lifetime, though I’d say he’s a long way behind Carter for first place. I assume you had ideological reasons for supporting Bush, and that it was his failure to be governed by the ideology he espoused, along with general managerial incompetence, that has resulted in your disillusionment. If I assume correctly, it makes no sense to embrace men whose ideology is entirely contrary to what Mr. Bush claimed to represent, and whose management skills are equally poor.
This is nothing but political suck-up Clark and has nothing to do with you seeing the “error of your ways”. If Homer Simpson were in office you’d be hosting a b**tt licking party for him.
Bob Clark is a political W HoR E.
He is flapping in the breeze with the winds of “Change.” When Democrats get swept from the house and senate in 2010 I bet a beer that all of the sudden he gets “remorseful” again.
To make money like Bob Clark does, takes payoffs to the right politicians. This is Chicago style politics. Soon Clayco will be awarded a big government contract to build something in honor of Barack Obama, and Bob’s $50,000 “Contribution” will be returned in “Spades.”
Funny thing is, if he were donating to a Republican the PD would be insinuating that this was a political payoff (which it is) and crying about special interests owning Washington (which they do).
This comment will undoubtedly be censored by whomever controls this board so enjoy it while you can. You see, free speech is only reserved for the Media Elite.
For the second time this week, I’ve come here to ‘trash’ someone and found that you guys had ‘beat me to it’ Well done.
I’ve had off and on dealing with Clayco over the years and I can tell you that Bob Clark will feel right at home with the Democrats. A match made… well somewhere.
I would like to see the first big fundraiser attended by both Bob Clark and Michael Staenberg… that would be fun to watch!
Sorry you guys are still sore about losing the election; you’re going to be out for a good while, so you might want to get some counseling, stop whining, get over it, and develop some other interests besides being selfish and hating yourself and everyone else; I know, just cause you’re not happy, you dont want anyone else to be either, just makes you human but not nice. God loves you, and those who least deserve love need it the most, but he’s not happy very proud of you, I believe.
Ok, now that we have that out of the way and we all feel better, let’s talk about James Clyburn. Never heard much about him but heard him on NPR the other day; didnt know who or what he was while I was listening to him; all I good say to myself while listening to him speak was, “goodness, is he smart!”.
Sorry cant afford the fund-raiser or I’d be there for sure. Good luck!
Yeah Billhaas. We will MoveOn.org just like the Liberals did for the EIGHT YEARS that GW was the Prez. You my friend are the POT and I am the KETTLE. What’s my color? WHAT’S MY COLOR?????
As for Bob Clark; Is it just me or does his picture above look like Will Ferrell playing a crazy old man??? I don’t care who you are that thar is funny.
What makes you think that your Prezident is so sacred as to not be criticized??? You had no problem criticizing EVERYTHING That Bush and Cheney did. Hell I remember when there was a shortage of vaccine for the bird flu and the press excorciated GW for the outbreak that NEVER happened. Yet right now there are at least 1000 people in this country with SWINE FLU and there is (and will be) a shortage of vaccine for it. Yet Obama is getting high praise from the MSM and no criticism from the left. More kids have dies from the swine flu than died from the bird flu, yet nobady is blaming the Messiah. Why??? Because it’s not his fault. Just like it wasn’t GW’s fault that their wasn’t a bird flu virus. That didn’t stop YOU BILLHAAS from criticizing a PRESIDENT that was ELECTED TWICE. WHAT COLOR AM I NOW BILL?????

OMG I was thinking the same thing about that picture of Bob Clark. I think what we need here is a caption contest. I’ll go first.
