Ed Rhode, the press secretary for St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay for more than eight years, is leaving the post at the end of the month to go into business for himself as a communications consultant.

He said today he already has a few clients on the hook - including Slay - so look for his name to continue to be a regular fixture in the media.

Before coming on the Slay team, Rhode worked for seven years in former Congressman Richard Gephardt’s office.

“After 81/2 years here and 7 years with Gephardt, I’m ready to leave the public sector
office,” Rhode said.

…not from the rumors swirling inside City Hall. Let’s just say it wasn’t very voluntary…

Ha! But now he might be forced to actually work. Story after story over the past 5 years I’ve been in St. Louis has included some form of the basic line: “..a spokesperson for Mayor Slay declined to comment” or “the Mayor’s Office was unavailable for comment”

Maybe Ed Rhodes will do communications for Brown and Smith.

I hear there was a trade and Rhode is going to work for Suggs as his editor while Kings will work in room 200.

goolash, clearly you’re not in the “inside.” It’s all about “loyalty.”

First Gephardt then Slay. Hard to say which was worst.I haven’t heard from Slay in awhile. I guess he only shows his mug when the Prez and the VIPs are in town for the Allstar game. How about getting on TV occasionally and saying what’s up.

As a member of the press I can tell you, that regardless of whatever news he was delivering, he was truthful and respectful. He will do well.

Maybe the Post-Dispatch can hire him as a spell-check consultant.
