Luetkemeyer continues busy first year with trip to Israel
Even during the summer recess, freshman U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer is not taking it easy.
The Mid-Missouri Republican, elected in November, has emerged as a frequent critic of the Obama administration. Now that Congress is on break, Luetkemeyer is joining a GOP delegation to Israel.
Luetkemeyer is in Israel this week with Minority Whip Eric Cantor — one of Capitol Hill’s most prominent Jewish Republicans — and more than 20 other lawmakers to discuss the nation’s security and relationship with the U.S.
“This trip will provide me with the opportunity to learn more about Israel’s special relationship to the U.S. and how Israel deals with the common threat that confronts both of our countries: international terrorism,” Luetkemeyer said in a statement issued by his office. “I expect to leave Israel with information and experiences that will be helpful to my work on national security and foreign policy issues in Congress.”
Luetkemeyer will participate in several “high-level meetings,” his office said.
The trip was paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation, which is affiliated with AIPAC, the influential Israeli-American lobby.

Hopefully, this is a sign that my city of Creve Coeur will be redistricted to his district next year. Still waiting to see Lacy show up out here.
Great story, Jake. Any news on whether Rep. Carnahan ever paid his roofer?
A weeks trip to Isrial paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation. I wonder which way Luetkemeyer will cast his vote on Israeli-American legislation.
Also, another complaint by Nick? Is this all this guy does? And still no ideas or solutions.
I guess it was to be expected that Blaine Luetkemeyer would follow the path of the majority of his fellow members of Congress and side with Israel against the foreign policy of his own government, the one whose Constitution he swore to uphold when he took the oath of office. I strongly believe that in this time of severe economic crisis, Luetkemeyer’s constituents would much rather have him back in his district dealing with the people’s business, and by that I mean the people of Missouri and not those of a foreign country, namely Israel.
I find it amazing how many members of Congress feel they have to make a pilgrimage to Israel, just to prove their loyalty to AIPAC and the rest of the Lobby. Many members of Congress know that to say NO to AIPAC and/or to criticize Israel can be a real career ender.
There are a lot of problems in this country, some of which could be helped by the $3 billion in tax dollars that Congress votes for Israel every year. If his first allegiance is to the U.S. Congressman Leutkemeyer should stay home and work to redirect some of those billions to his district.
“Luetkemeyer is in Israel this week with Minority Whip Eric Cantor — one of Capitol Hill’s most prominent Jewish Republicans —”
–probably because he is the only jewish republican in the house or senate…
The sooner we dump Israel the safer we will be.
