Burris: No public option, no ‘yes’ on health reform from me

Sen. Roland Burris

Sen. Roland Burris

WASHINGTON — Illinois Sen. Roland Burris served notice a short time ago that Democrats might have problems other than the Republican variety in getting health-care reform legislation out of the Senate.

Burris, a Democrat, announced that any legislation lacking provisions establishing a public entity to compete with insurance companies would not get his vote in the Senate.

Given that the new legislation unveiled today by Sen. Max Baucus lacks the so-called public option in favor of less controversial cooperatives, Burris’s decision could signal trouble from liberals in the Senate as well as in the House.

Here’s how Burris put it:

“I firmly believe in a public option and will oppose any bill that does not include one. Illinoisans have seen their insurance premiums skyrocket, while more and more families lose their coverage every day …

“The inclusion of a public option as a central component to any health-care reform legislation is the only way to create meaningful competition with the insurance companies and, in turn, bring down costs and improve quality of care …  “

Burris was appointed by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich to take the Senate seat that was held by Barack Obama. Burris, who has endured a Senate Ethics Committee investigation in connection with the appointment, has said he won’t run for a full term in next year’s mid-term elections.

That is awesome! The big tea party hatefests have completely backfired, and momentum is building for real healthcare reform!

Wait, on second glance, did you really just say what I think you just said?

“Burris’s decision could signal trouble from liberals in the Senate as well as in the House.”

Ummm, no. Actually, liberals have said all along that we need a public option. Senator Baucus is a centrist who’s taken almost $4 million dollars in insurance company donations and done everything he can to prevent meaningful reform. He delayed his bill until after the recess for absolutely no reason, given that the bill he finally released was exactly what he outlined six months ago, and even after all that there still are no Republicans who will support the bill. By the way, liberals already have the votes they need to pass real reform with a public option; they just have to use reconciliation.

Maxine Waters: Media Should Probe the “Birthers & Teabaggers” at Rallies
Offensive socialist Maxine Waters–

Despicable Rep. Maxine Waters today said that the media should investigate the “birthers and teabaggers” at the rallies like the massive rally last weekend.
“Teabagger”, of course, is a offensive sexual term used by liberals to describe the freedom protesters who are against the record government spending.
The Hill reported:

The media should investigate the racial views of conservative activists like the ones who descended on Washington last weekend, one liberal congresswoman said Wednesday.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said that it’s not enough for African-Americans to levy allegations of racism against the right-leaning protesters, and that the media must look into their views.

“I want those people talked to; I want them interviewed,” Waters told the liberal Bill Press Radio show in a podcast. “I want journalists to be all over those rallies and the marches with the birthers and the teabaggers.”

“What I’m looking for is the very people who carry the signs who are referring to the policies in very, very strange ways like ‘Obamacare’ and ‘Bury Obamacare with Kennedy,’” she said. “What I’ve been interested in is hearing from those people that everybody’s referring to — everybody on the Mall, in the rally.”

Last month this offensive representative called those who oppose the government takeover of health care neanderthals at a town hall meeting.

–If democrats try to pass this legislation, with the public option, by using reconciliation, it will be a true nuclear option. Because that will be the size of the reaction they will get from those opposed to it.
–Besides being illegal, it would bring such revulsion down on them, they would WISH they had poll numbers of 20% approval, as they presently do.

The only reason this socialist is not voting for it is it lacks a public option. We are not a socialist state and should not be in the healthcare business or any other business for that matter. The silent majority has awakened and one can only hope this is just the beginning. We are tired of entitlements in this country and tired of paying to support others who have CHOSEN (Key Word Here) not to accept financial responsibility for their lives. Part of my compensation is healthcare provided by my employer and I consider that when accepting a position. Try working full time and going to school full time for 8 years to make a decent living for yourself like I did. I do not have sympathy for young adults who can afford healthcare but choose not to purchase it. I have no sympathy for 5th generation welfare recipients who have chosen welfare as an occupation. I have some sympathy for illegal aliens trying to make a better life for themselves, but not to the point I want to pay for their healthcare.

–Such inimitable substantiation, such wisdom and wit, how can one debunk such an ebullient and brilliant argument? I can’t even try…

I think that Congressional leadership doesn’t get that there is not a consensus yet in the country, or in Congress, and there is a need for more discussion of what the problems in health care are and how to solve these problems. You may think you know what the problems are that need solving, but this disagreement between Baucus and Burris highlights my argument - first come to a consensus on the need.
