McCaskill

Though U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill’s personal bottom line took a hit in the financial downturn, she still ranks among the wealthy elite on Capitol Hill, according to an analysis by the Beltway newspaper Roll Call.

Roll Call puts McCaskill’s personal wealth at just about $16 million, making her the eighth richest senator and the 17th richest member of Congress overall.

McCaskill’s wealth, according to Roll Call, actually dipped by around 18 percent — $3.5 million — knocking her down a few notches from last year, when she ranked 14th on Roll Call’s Congressional rich list.

The tallies were complied using Congressional disclosure forms, which are notoriously vague. Many of the members may actually be far wealthier than listed.

McCaskill, 56, is a career civil servant. The wealth comes from her husband, Joe Shepard, who made millions developing housing in mostly poor and rural areas.

The richest member of Congress is Massachusetts Democrat John Kerry, who also married into money: His wife is the heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune.

She should start her own cash for clunkers program in Missouri. Maybe she could get Obama to match it. After all he is on a spending spree.

Damn it!!.

I did it all wrong. I should have married a rich broad and let her finance a campaign so I can get a cush job where I get to control the lives of others.

Honey, I want a divorce.

So the wealth of both politicians mentioned here are attached to their spouses. What about John McCain, who also ‘married up’? For all those who accuse the Post Dispatch of being a ‘liberal rag’, please take note that this comes from Roll Call.

Apparently I’m a millionaire and don’t know it. Congress is supposed to represent us correct?

Why is it that all of Congress are millionaires? I’m apparently not doing something right.

Just how does one make millions developing housing in poor and rural areas?

Amazed,

Why not ask the Insurance Executives who make millions off denying claims and using pre-existing conditions to save money ????

And this my friends is a big part of what’s wrong with our government today. How can you expect those wealthy enough to use twenty dollar bills as toilet tissue to sympathize with the plight of the average American? Then again, this has been the case since the day we declared our independence. Washington is a playground for the rich who are looking to leverage their power and increase their wealth as well as their cronies.

There are hard any if any average people in the US Senate that represent the average american. They all want us to think they are though.

Jake, McCaskill received a 90 extension to report her financial disclosure form which was due 8-13 and was to be available to the public 30 days later - 9-13-09 - still awaiting comment from the PD.
