Carnahan — and opponents — ready for Pelosi’s appearance

ST. LOUIS — Days after a Republican opponent entered the race, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan is bringing in a big name for his own event.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is due in St. Louis on Saturday evening, headlining Carnahan’s annual fundraising gala at the Chase Park Plaza. The VIP reception — $2,400 a person — begins at 5 p.m., followed by the more affordable general reception, which costs $250 a person.

Not surprisingly, the Missouri GOP is using the polarizing Pelosi’s appearance to take a swipe at Carnahan, who is seeking a fourth term.

“Earlier this year, Nancy Pelosi belittled the millions of patriotic Americans who took to the streets to protest Washington’s reckless spending proposals,” state Republican director Lloyd Smith said in a statement.  “Now, Russ Carnahan has brought her to America’s heartland to bailout his campaign.  His invitation of Pelosi is a slap in the face to Missourians.”

Smith’s comments are an apparent reference to Pelosi’s feelings on the “tea party” crowd, who actually don’t appear to be planning on a major appearance outside the Chase — they already have plans Saturday in St. Charles.

Meanwhile, Republican Ed Martin — who announced his challenge against Carnahan on Wednesday — is planning a “Pelosi Pork and Beans” party at his campaign headquarters Saturday night. Price tag: $5 a head, though drinks are BYOB.

Good news for the St. Louis Botox industry.

If she is not the worst thing to ever happen to our party, she is in the top ten. Russ seems dead set on cementing his place on that list with moves like this one. She has absolutely nothing in common with most of the 3rd district, and apparently neither does Russ. Why not a primary?

Hopefully somebody from Martin’s campaign will be there to get photos of them arm in arm.

So for at least several hours we’ll have an answer
to “Where in the World Is Robin Carnahan?”

Just the thought of this political idiot coming to our state makes me want to vomit. Russ Carnahan is a complete moron for wanting to be associated with this mental midget.

This is supposed to help raise money? I would think Carnahan was smart enough to keep her as far away as possible.

Go Republicans!

To Randy, I can only say, as a life-long resident of Missouri’s 3-CD, I am a supporter of Pelosi and agree with her on a majority of policy issues. I think most of Obama-voting neighbors would agree.

She is a brave person to visit Missouri. Too many nuts.

I will be in line to vote this chucklehead out of office. Just another product of a political dynasty that is otherwise unqualified for his position (Lacy Clay, Freeman Bosley Jr., Dubya).
