Fresh from Luxembourg, Wagner will chair Roy Blunt’s campaign
FRONTENAC — Former Missouri State GOP chair Ann Wagner is back in the U.S. and ready to be part of Republican politics once again.
Wagner, who recently returned from a four-year ambassadorship in Luxembourg, will serve as campaign chair for U.S. Rep Roy Blunt’s bid for the U.S. Senate, his campaign announced today in a brief news conference at the county library headquarters.
While often such positions are largely ceremonial, the campaign said in a statement that Wagner will have a “critical leadership role in the campaign’s operations.” The move gives Blunt continued visibility in the St. Louis area, where in February, he kicked off his campaign at Harris-Stowe State University.
Wagner, the statement said, has the “capability to produce a tremendous Republican vote in the St. Louis area.” Before her stay in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Wagner was co-chair of the National Republican Committee. Her husband, Ray, is a prominent Enterprise Rent-A-Car executive.
Meanwhile, Democrats seized on Ann Wagner’s ties to the Bush administration. A release from the state party called her “Another Member of the Washington Money Merry-Go-Round.”
Wagner was appointed ambassador by George W. Bush in 2005.

Not that you would know it from reading the many “being a D (or being an R, depending on the writer) automatically makes you a crook (or an idiot, or any of a dozen other insults)” comments oftern posted here, but THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE IN BOTH PARTIES, and the Wagners are among the good people in the GOP.
I’ll still be voting “D” of course, but not because of some fantasy that my party knows only the virtuous or is immune from boneheadedness.
Ray Wagner, her husband, is the treasurer for the sales tax increase on the November ballot. Are we sure they’re still Republicans?
OMG, I thought we GOPers had finally gotten rid of the RINO Ann Wagner and her tax campaign husband Ray. Understood if Roy Blunt wouldn’t take her, she was going to run the upcoming METRO Tax campaign for her Ladue buddy Bob Baer, head of METRO. And at one time they called themselves conservatives? When will these people go away?
I know the Wagners.
Ann Wagner is a brilliant, accomplished woman who will give my friend Robin Carnahan fits as she runs Blunt’s campaign. Ann, in my opinion, was the true architect of the GOP resurgence in Missouri as she headed up both of the last two efforts at re-districting in Missouri. I had hoped Ann would stay in Europe.
Ray is a true compassionate conservative and if he leads any effort which might increase taxes, it’s because he feels it will best serve the health, safety or welfare of the people.
Folks like the Wagners are those that gave me hope that someday the GOP won’t be the complete captive of the far right corporatists like Roy Blunt. My hope for that has dimmed somewhat in light of the latest choice made by Ms. Wagner but, perhaps she can bring Mr. Blunt back to the reality that Missouri no longer believes the standard GOP lies. If not, which I hope, Mr. Blunt will lose 54-46% to Robin Carnahan, and all will be well in Missouri.
Ray, why don’t you run against Akin if Steve Ehlmann won’t?
Perhaps Ms. Wagner can do a favor for the Republicans in her new role: launch a search for a viable candidate for U. S. Senate from her party!
Good luck with that, gurl!
Doesn’t it say something when the Republican comments here are anti-Wagner and the pro-Wagner comments come from the Democrats? Think this tells where the big money, pro-tax Wagner Family’s views lie.

While she is on that job, maybe a prominent democrat can find a find a viable candidate for her party that still is dragging on daddies coattails…..
isn’t still dragging on daddy’s coattails.
Sorry word Nazi’s…..
Amazed: I guess that’s what you get when you have NO original thoughts yourself, rather (poorly) parroting others and adding deflection to the mix.
Tut, tut, gurl!
