Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Julie Jones, a lawyer from Ladue, as a member of the St. Louis County Election Board.

Nixon named Jones to the board last Friday. She is Nixon’s second appointment to the board. Last spring, he put Richard Kellett of Florissant, a retired leader of Local 562 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters union, on the board. The governor has yet to appoint two members to the board and select a chairperson.

Governors appoint the board’s four members in the year they take office to serve four-year terms that end in early January of the year after the next gubernatorial election.

Jones is a Republican and Kellett, a Democrat. Under state law, no more than two members of the same party can serve on the board. The state Senate has confirmed Kellett. Although the state Senate must consider confirming Jones, she can start serving on the board now, Scott Holste, a spokesman for the governor, said.

Jones, who specializes in business law, has operated her own law firm in Warson Woods since 2006. She has a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a law degree from St. Louis University. She worked for the Bryan Cave law firm from 1998 to 2006.

Jones, 40, is married and has two children.

She may be a fine person, but is she a Republican? I have asked my state rep (who is a republican) in this area, the party and and many other involved republicans and no one has heard of her. Phil, it would be interesting if you asked a few questions to learn of her credentials to serve in this partisan position and who pushed her appointment. The Senator where she lives is Joan Bray…hmmmmm

Also, Holste is wrong. She cannot begin serving until she is confirmed by the Senate. The statute for election boards is different from other Boards. This is important because any decisions she participates in as a Board member without Senate confirmation would be subject to legal challenges in court.. this would include election certifications and we have an election coming up in November…

This looks like it might be another overreach by Nixon and might deserve scrutiny by the Senate.

I searched both state and federal campaign contributions, and am unable to find any contribution by Mrs. Jones at all. If anyone is more successful at finding evidence that she was a Republican prior to today, I’d love to hear about it.

Someone told me that her husband is a Nixon loyalist. His name is William B Jones ( so I am told). It would be interesting to see his contribution history

Her husband’s only state campaign contribution 2006-present was to Hulshof, $200 just before the primary. No federal contributions at all.

Common Sense has no common sense. Just a typical wild pitch flame thrower. Nice try, play again sometime.

daHood,

Instead of attacking me.. why dont you answer the questions. You seem to be “in the know”. What are her republican credentials? Who is her sponsor/benefactor? We all know there are no known republicans in ladue to fill a republican spot….
