The office of Missouri Auditor Susan Montee says it will release its audit of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on Nov. 10.

Her office will also release audits of the city’s public safety division and Lambert-St. Louis International Airport on Nov. 5.

Then-Gov. Matt Blunt asked Montee in September 2008 to audit the police department after a Post-Dispatch investigation revealed that a towing contractor had short-changed taxpayers by nearly $700,000 over two years.

The money was owed from fees collected from vehicle owners picking up impounded cars. Because complete records go back only two years, the newspaper could not determine how much more was missing.

Former Police Board President Chris Goodson told Montee in a letter the amount could be “significant.” The department later accused the towing company, St. Louis Metropolitan Towing, of “evil motive” and sued them to recoup about $500,000. The case is pending in circuit court.

Montee’s audit of the police department took five months of field work; the final report is about 50 pages, according to her staff. The department has seen a draft of the copy and has responded; its responses will be included in the report.

Montee’s office has been auditing city government because the local Green Party collected enough signatures in 2007 to force the sweeping review. She released the first report last September. An audit released in July led to criminal charges against a former city accountant who is accused of stealing money from permit fees.

Ouch, this one is going to be ugly folks.

Hopefully the audit results will spark additional investigations and jail time for these people who have been fleecing the citizens of St. Louis for decades.

Tow lot scam, World Series scam, 80K missing from evidence room, 6 million dollars taken from innocent people upon arrest but not refunded when released and not charged (used for police parties), planting drugs and taking money from drug dealers, accepting known stolen property, and on, and on, and on, and on………….

THe state auditor needs to audit the Department of Safety. There is more fraud, waste and abuse in the National GUard then you can shake a stick it. Issues and problems can be resolved to solve money but the National Guard is too dang stubborn and self-centered to want to solve taxpayers monies. e.g. The National Guard rents buildings for troops when they can move the troops onto government owned land and save money. But they are too blind sided

I have not been to one completed airport in the past three years. The airports have the greatest source of funds for contractors. For some reason the FAA has the ability to grant millions of dollars to keep the airports in a constant state of disarray.
Thus, service to and from the airports has not improved but decayed, and all attempts to cut security are undermined by the additional officers needed to direct traffic.
Let us begin by ending the contracts at airports and using these personnel for criminal behavior.
Then all policemen who shoot a perpetrator should be given a one day suspension while investigators determine the causes of the shooting.Let us bring back some rationality to this unfortunate situation.
Many officers do not shoot their weapons because they are in safer districts,or work in highly structured environments like museums or behind a desk at headquarters.

The St Peters Audit really stinks. Susan Montee was suppose to give the citizens that petitioned the Audit 24 hours to view the St Peters Audit. She did not give them one minute. When Susan Montee delivered the St Peters audit to the Media it was at that very second the citizens were handed the audit. No questions could be asked by the citizens, because they were not given the 24 hours they were suppose to get to view it!!!! HOW VERY CONVENIENT, IS THIS THE WAY TO CONDUCT AN AUDIT???????

How many other Audits have been conducted like this by Montee????

The FBI need to look into the Audit of the City of St Peters. The petioneers for the Audit were supose to be given 24 hours to view the St. Peters Audit. That did not happen, Susan Montee did not give the petitioneer the audit report until the second she deliverd it to the Media. Could it be that the Chair of the Democratic Party was a sitting Alderman at the time. Could it be she did not want any questions about the Audit. If you view it you will know why! That should be investigated!
