New face, familiar name enters fray to replace T.D. El-Amin

ST. LOUIS — The push to replace T.D. El-Amin in the state House is getting more crowded.
Earlier, we told you that 26th Ward Committeeman Joe Palm was interested in the seat. Now, another name has emerged: the First Ward’s Karla May, who, like Palm, ran against El-Amin in 2006.
May, 39, is the daughter of Parrie May, a veteran First Ward Democrat — and sometimes Independent — who, as a former alderman and committeewoman, has had a front-row view to the political tumult in the ward.
Parrie May, 71, is still at City Hall: She was Mayor Francis Slay’s appointment to serve as city register, which maintains copies of ordinances, city contracts and other official documents.
The process for replacing El-Amin will be the same as replacing the other recently-convicted St. Louis Democrat, Jeff Smith. Committee members from the wards in the 57th House District will select a nominee, whose name will be placed on a special election ballot to fill out the term.
El-Amin resigned last week after pleading guilty to accepting a bribe. Earlier, Smith stepped down after admitting a political cover-up that included lying to the FBI.
The Democratic nominating panel is set to meet next month to pick their choice in the special election, which will be in February.
In addition to Palm and May, St. Louis lawyer Hope Whitehead, former head of the Division of Liquor Control, may also be in the running.
Lets not have all the “B.S” this time, Joe Palm is the most qualified person for the job! Check the record, his community involvement and work ethic is unmatched.

I’ve known Karla May for many years and she has been working along with her mother to improve our community and fighting for better housing and equal rights for all. She is honest, sincere, and highly qualified.
