Planned Parenthood sues over abortion, stem cell petitions

JEFFERSON CITY — Planned Parenthood sued the state Wednesday to object to the language in two proposed anti-abortion, anti-stem-cell funding ballot initiatives.

The lawsuits, filed in Cole County Circuit Court, seek to stop the approval of language for a ballot initiative that would allow the Legislature to limit funding to any organization that supported abortion or certain types of controversial stem cell research and another proposal that would create a new definition of when life begins, in effect outlawing abortion and likely even certain forms of birth control.

The group that had filed the first petition, Missouri Roundtable for Life, had already asked that it be withdrawn, but the request came after the language had been approved for petition circulation.

Both of the petitions had been approved for circulation earlier this month.

So “pro-life” groups want to ban condoms?

An anti-abortion group tried to ram through the egg-as-life law in North Dakota. The result would have been that cancer cells would be defined as human beings, and chemotherapy likely would have been outlawed.

Here’s a suggestion to “pro-life” groups: instead of trying to get BIG GOVERNMENT to ban things that you don’t like, try to change people’s hearts and minds.

how about some context, Tony? is this a common practice by opponents of ballot initiatives or is this unheard of? what exactly in the language are they objecting to? in other words, how about practicing some journalism?

Planned Parenthood sounds like a bunch of crybabies who can’t accept the fact that the majority of Americans are PRO-LIFE…

Wow, you both (ken and faithful) seem to exemplify why this is such an acrid, awful topic. Rather than discuss, you guys want to paint each other as either baby-skinners or imprisoners of females… and apparently cancer bringers.

DUH! Abortion is bad! But so is having too many kids and not supporting them, and once conception happens, those are the two options. I doubt most opponents of abortion support helping low income bracket kids lead healthy lives, given that anti-abortion is right wing, and right wing opposes handouts. Which is why I have no respect for them and their goals, and oppose them.

To try to trick the populace into outlawing it with bad wording is pathetic. And seriously? Stem cells? Ugh.

Faithful - what kind of lunatic logic do you subscribe to? Liberals/Regressives are NOT tolerant of other’s view points. Ever notice how they try to degrade you when you disagree with them? They are only tolerant and respectful others who think just like they do. OK to kill a baby by sucking them out of the womb or stabbing them in the head with scissors, but not OK to kill a mass murderer.

luvmysoftail- pff… because anybody listens to anybody? Get real– rejecting people with idiotic emotionally loaded arguments is a bipartisan tactic… as you exemplify by immediately attacking faithful as a lib, and bringing the death penalty into it. Clearly, faithful is an idiot, but you are doing exactly as they did.
