Schweich more than doubles Icet in auditor race fund-raising
JEFFERSON CITY — Political newcomer Thomas Schweich of St. Louis proved he could raise money in his first-ever political race.
The Republican posted a fund-raising total of more than $335,000 this quarter, more than doubling the amount raised by GOP opponent Allen Icet, a state representative from Wildwood.
Icet, the House budget chairman, had what would otherwise be considered a good quarter himself, raising $127,000, not including another $25,000 he collected from Majority Floor Leader Steve Tilley on Oct. 5.
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic incumbent Susan Montee, who didn’t yet post her fund-raising numbers for the quarter.
Both candidates pulled in big donations from prominent St. Louis Republicans, with Schweich getting $25,000 from former U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Sam Fox; and Icet getting an identical amount from retired financier and think-tank founder Rex Sinquefield.

I met this guy. He smells like the 2006 GOP.
My three yr old daughter exudes more confidence than this Schweich fella.
He seems the type of guy that would fold like a lawn chair the first time someone flexed some muscle.
I am all for throwing the bums out, but what’s the point if we replace status quo with this guy?
I have great doubt that the tea-partiers want anything to do with him.
Randy
So if you met him you know he has been in war zones and didn’t “fold like a lawn chair.” It’s nice to know that as a voter, Randy, you think charisma, oh no “confidence”, is more important than actually having experience and being able to do the job. Maybe you are the problem with the elections of 2006 and 2008.
BTW, I think the tea party goers might like him- he wrote a book back in 2002 on how to make sure ivestments are crash proof. I would think that would be important to all voters.
If you want weak, check out Montee, a Democrat lawyer tool like Nixon. We need somebody to audit Nixon, not a party hack like Montee. From what I can tell, she probably falls asleep at her desk. Schweich has a very impressive background that says he is tough and persistent.
Lincoln Chaffee was in war zones, too. Would you like to vouch for his spine as well, BigPicture? I can make a long list of all of the bureaucrats and politicians that I have seen while in war zones that I wouldn’t trust to defend my lunch money, not alone take on seated power.
Yes, when I meet a man/woman I do take away a read of them. And yes, my face to face conversations are taken into account. The way he answers my questions, his expressions, demeanor, his mannerisms while just under the stress of a few questions from a private citizen. Those are all taken into account.
Or- perhaps I should just stick to his White House bio and let that be enough.
I am the problem with the 2006 elections? Really? Not the GOP leadership that this guy first decides to take on and then crumbles when the same good ol’ boys corner him in the backroom? Give me a break. What happens when it comes time to audit one of those good ol’ boys or their friends after 2012? Will he get another call to the backroom for an additional attitude adjustment procedure?
This guy is exactly what the tea partiers are mad about.
Why, Randy, you’re scared of Schweich running against the weak and colorless party hack, Montee. Remember when Montee found out Nixon was using a state car for campaign trips, a blatantly unlawful use of public property? Remember what Montee did? Nothing. Nothing at all.
Schweich is an interesting dude. He’s both reasonable and intelligent, which seem to be qualities that the teabaggers hate, so I agree that it might be difficult for him to win the primary. However, it probably would be good for the Republican Party.
Is Scweich the guy who let that Taliban and al Qaeda alone in Afghanistan so people in Missouri could die from the heroin made from where our untouched enemies make 95% of the world’s opium?

I had the pleasure to attend an event 2 weeks ago for Tom Schweich and was very pleased in what I heard. I was able to speak with him briefly, but came away confident that he would do an excellent job for the state of Missouri as auditor. I would also not be to quick to assume that tea party members would hate him as several of the people I spoke with at the same event told me that they attended and supported the tea rallies.
Hmmmmm…..we tell our children, “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” Schwiech’s number one friend? Jack Danforth. Conservative voters would do well to remember Danforth’s unkind and demeaning comments toward them. As the current House Budget Chairman, Allen Icet is the most equipped person to follow the money. Who else in the state knows better the budget and bureacracy? Don’t be fooled. Lots of old and tired money does not necessarily translate into fresh and inspired Auditor. Allen Icet is our very best choice.
The issue is not how much money you raise, but who you are beholding to for these donations. There really are no free rides and once you are bought and paid for, we the people of the United States of America are the ones who suffer when you pass bills to profit these donaters and to hell with whats best for the constituents. We are in a bad state of affairs in this country, and politicians are selling us down the drain for money and profit…SAD SAD SAD and so wrong…
