Will Gov. Jay Nixon take a swim in the lake? Not today

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon said on Friday that if the weather were warmer, he would take a swim in the Lake of the Ozarks, since the public beach was once again re-opened.

Oops. The governor spoke too soon. According to a news release from the Department of Natural Resources, the beach that has been part of the subject of the E. coli controversy dogging Nixon is closed again. The water near the beach at the Lake of the Ozarks was tested Friday and had elevated E. coli levels yet again.

The beach was closed on Sunday and remains closed today. Not that anybody would go swimming in the lake this time of year, but, still …
