Missouri DNR reduces parks system layoffs to 48 employees
JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri’s plan to cut about 100 state parks workers has been scaled back, according to the Springfield News-Leader’s Chad Livengood. After various workers exercised seniority rights and jobs were moved around, only 48 jobs were cut, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
From Livengood’s story:
DNR originally estimated 100 positions would be eliminated. Approximately 77 other employees are transferring into different positions or taking pay cuts, according to DNR spokesman Travis Ford.
Three weeks ago, the agency set notice to 199 parks employees that their positions may be affected by the need to slash $3.7 million from the budget in response to declining tax revenues, Ford said.
After employees with seniority completed the process of moving into vacancies or bumping junior employees, 48 employees received layoff notices this week. Nov. 15 will be their last day on the job, Ford said.
Because of the retirements and transfers within the agency, 66 employees who originally got notices will be unaffected by the job cuts, Ford said.
News of the original plan to make the cuts first broke here.
