Wrapping up our election night coverage with a few more winners:

  • Voters in Kirkwood approved a municipal smoking ban that is stricter than the county version also approved tonight.
  • County voters approved a tenth-of-a-cent sales tax to fund new emergency radio equipment.
  • St. Louis Democrat Joe Keaveny scored about 5,000 votes in his unopposed bid to replace former state Sen. Jeff Smith. There were about 550 write-in votes.
  • In the tiny county hamlet of Uplands Park, a proposition regarding telephone license fees passed by 10 votes — 26 to 16.
  • Republicans won governorships in Virginia and New Jersey, where incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine was defeated. Former Missouri state Sen. John Loudon and other local Tea Party folks were celebrating the victories at the Sky Lounge in Ballwin.

so the majority of the slim turn out was sappy enough to fall for the tax increase/E911 for which there is ALREADY a charge on your cell bill. Police/Fire had gotten all the tax increases they could milk from the public since 911 tragedies, so they had to resort to hiding behind non-entities. Oh, and this isn’t just a one time improvement, you voted for a tax that lasts Forever! Another slick batch of advertising that threatened us with dying senior citizens and children unless we spent “just a dime” (more like 50 bucks a year). Funny how I never hear about people dying or emergency crews never showing up because they couldn’t get found…..oh, well, good job. we solved a problem that never existed. And who disperses this money, at what percentages and will it all go to the exact purposes as mentioned??….of course NOT! 50-100 dollars a person times all the people in St.L County………GOLD MINE !

The majority has spoken. Glad to see this as a begining St. Louis. The exemptions are there because some didn’t really want to stick their necks all the way out. But what a great day it is, the people have spoken. Get over it “Too much governmental control freaks” and quit the banter about disregarding this as a public health and safety issue, and “owners” rights. No one has the right to pollute our lungs . And the issue of starting in 2011?? How hard is it to throw out the ashtrays! I bet if the businesses started ASAP their business would increase, the “non-smoking public” would be happy to patronize your establishment, when the air is clear!

allenb hasn’t done his homework…the 911 charge on your cell phone bill is NOT REMITTED to the state, the county, or municipalities. That is the CELLULAR company’s way to fund 911 requirements on their end while dressing it up to look like a tax.

Ever call 911 on a Nextel phone? It always rings to St. Louis City 911.
Where’s the intersection of Highway 40 and I-70? Downtown or Wentzville?
Lindbergh and I-270…North County or South County? (South County is actually I-255 but many folks get it wrong)
I-44 at the Meramec River…Fenton or Eureka?

Get the picture? And $50-$100 a year per person? You spend $50,000-$100,000 per person in your household on locally purchased merchandise? I want your salary.

So Chris your so happy about the smoking band…..yes I think the owner of any establishment has the right to let you smoke or not…..and if it is to let people smoke then that should be his/hers right to do so…..after all it is their business’s…..and if you don’t like what they do with their business’s…..DON’T PATRONIZE THEM……..you get it Chris

Americans must morn the chip from our rights. The others, or supporters of a government run society relish the victory over the infidel freedom lovers.

Here is a simple remedy for all of you smokers who are upset at the impending ban on smoking….Quit Smoking!! With all of the new products available to help people quit, it is easier than ever to stop. You will save a ton of money and you may avoid suffering and dying prematurely from a smoking related malady.

Vinnie, you “think” wrong. What makes you think that owners of businesses have any “right” to disregard the health and well-being of their employees and customers. Perhaps if you would really think you wouldn’t say such stupid things. Based on your “logic” these owners shouldn’t have to practice safe food-handling, could serve toxic food, wouldn’t have to make sure their facility followed fire and other safety rules, etc. Is that what you also “think”?

American, you sound just as dumb. Where in the Constitution does it say a small minority (less than 20%)of the population are allowed to trample on the rights of the vast majority of the population to breathe clean air and not be subjected to the nasty and disgusting addictions of that minority? If you are a smoker and want to kill yourself go for it. But DON’T think you have any right whatsoever to kill or harm others. Sadly you do still have the right to harm any children that might live in your house but then it’s an unfortunate fact that many children are harmed in various kinds of ways by ignorant and uncaring adults.

Now go pollute YOUR air, leave mine alone.
