Second time’s the charm; Nixon bags, donates deer
JEFFERSON CITY — Hunting with a former state representative yesterday on his Pulaski County farm, Gov. Jay Nixon shot a deer.
The outing with Democrat Bill Ransdall was Nixon’s second try. He spent opening day of deer season hunting in Clark County.
Ransdall, of Waynesville, is a member of the State Tax Commission, having received that plum appointment from Nixon earlier this month.
The venison from Nixon’s quarry will go to food banks and homeless shelters, reinforcing Nixon’s push for the Share the Harvest program.
Under the program, hunters can take their deer to an approved processor and donate the entire deer or a few pounds. The Conservation Federation of Missouri pays part of the processing cost.
Earlier, Nixon helped expand the program to more processors by awarding the federation $200,000 in neighborhood assistance program tax credits.

The CFM should pay all , not the hunter to pay any!
I agree with Sherry. No program is ever perfect and Nixon can not doing anything right.
The Governor should hunt in Town & Country!
If the hunter wants to donate part of the kill, they should pay for part of the processing! Them them have a write off at the end of the year for donating the meat also!
Im guessing you are not a hunter DEN,right?
hunter donates a few pounds of venison and gets the entire processing fee paid by the state. sounds like a poor deal for the taxpayer , food pantry’s and charitys and a great deal for hunters.
jay- i expected more from you.
“The Conservation Federation of Missouri pays part of the processing cost.”
please reread the text, where does it say the state pays the entire fee? And we have to pay for the tag to hunt!
In the last 3 months, Nixon has gone from hero to zero. He’s done nothing for Missourians, hired angry, unfriendly, and ruthless executives, and turned against supporters. Who cares if Nixon bagged a deer? The majority of Missourians don’t even go deer hunting. Instead, a large portion of them aren’t working because of his ruthless, people hating policies. What is his solution? To keep laying off and firing people, turning them out into a society where few jobs exist in the private sector? The people who voted for Jay and believed in him are now scratching their heads wondering what has gone wrong. He sure has turned out to be an extremly unpopular, cruel man.
Sherry,
The Conservation Federation of Missouri is NOT a state agency. The state (as an agency or MDC money) DOES NOT PAY for Share the Harvest processing. There is a big difference between a tax credit and real money. Members of the CFM and their partners (including local sponsors) pay for it in some cases. CFM is a not-for-profit advocacy group consisting of affiliate outdoors groups and individual members interested in conservation and natural resources in Missouri. Members come from diverse backgrounds including anglers, hunters, native plant enthusiasts, birders, and just about outdoor interest you can name.
Just why in the world do you think CFM should pay for all expenses associated with the Share the Harvest program? Actually, according to a news release from them and the MDC in the last month, if a person donates ALL of their deer to the program, there are local sponsorships across the state which WILL pay for all the processing costs in some cases. You just have to find a processor who has such a sponsorship.
Please, get your facts straight before you make untrue statements.
Bambi killer won’t get my vote.
