St. Joseph’s King better prepared for Ball State

Special to the Post-Dispatch

By Craig Martin

Like many high school athletes, St. Joseph’s Patrice King found the recruiting process to be quite trying. After initially committing to Ball State as a junior, King started receiving more attention from bigger schools like Kentucky and Illinois.

She briefly withdrew her verbal commitment, but she then opted to follow through with her original pledge.

“I realized that I wasn’t the kind of kid who wanted to just go big and not play,” King said. “I wanted to make a change to the school. Ball State is that school that is upcoming for future stars and talent.”

King also said she feels better prepared to make the move to a new environment again next year after thriving following her transfer this season to St. Joseph’s from Chicago’s Marian Catholic. Former Marian teammate Suzanne Grossnickle, who also transferred this season to Belleville East, will aid in that transition as the two will be roommates at Ball State.

Read more on King’s senior season at St. Joseph’s in Saturday’s Post-Dispatch.
