Lindbergh graduate Josh Outman was shocked when he was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Oakland A’s in July, but that deal has worked out well for the left-handed pitcher who made his Major League debut this week.

“I was a little overwhelmed at the time [of the trade],” Outman told MLB.com. “I didn’t know quite how to feel. I was drafted by the Phillies and came up with them, and the next thing you know I’m going to an organization I didn’t know anything about.

“Obviously it turned out that it’s a very, very good thing for me personally.”

Outman, who pitched at Forest Park Community College before going to Central Missouri State, joined the Athletics as a September call-up and made his first appearance on Sept. 2 in Kansas City.  He tossed two innings of scoreless relief and his fastball was clocked at 96 miles per hour on the stadium radar gun.

The southpaw impressed A’s manager Bob Geren in his first appearance and Outman is now scheduled to start the second game of a double-header today in Baltimore.
