McCluer’s Boga makes commitment
Lonnie Boga, a senior shooting guard at McCluer High, committed to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
“It was just a good fit for me,” he said. “It reminded me of home. It’s a good situation because I’ll be able to come in and play right away.”
Boga attracted interest from schools like Missouri State, Southeast Missouri State and Illinois State for basketball and also Missouri State and Southern Illinois for football. He is a wide receiver for the Comets’ football team.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Boga averaged 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as a junior and made 36.3 percent of his 3-point attempts (37 of 102). He averaged 16.1 points per game as a sophomore and 10.6 points per contest as a freshman.
McCluer went 16-9 a year ago and tied with Hazelwood Central for second place in the Suburban North Conference behind McCluer North. The Comets return their three leading scorers, with Boga, sophomore point guard Shaquille Boga (16 points per game) and senior guard Jerrel Partlow (14.4 points per game).
McCluer, which is coached by former St. Louis University standout Erwin Claggett, should be one of the better teams in the area this winter.
“We have a chance,” Boga said. “We have to stay humble and keep working hard. We have a good group.

I have known Lonnie Boga since he was six years old at MDBG club. This child has really become an excellent athlete thanks to his sport from his dad and others. I am so proud of him. You can believe I keep up with him as an athlete and I will be watching the games.
