Orrick wins Class 1 football championship in overtime
Cameron Hollway
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

After both teams scored in the first overtime and made successful 2-point conversions, Clayton Jones intercepted a Thayer pass in the second overtime. Orrick then won it when Joe Kaufman scored on a 1-yard run, giving the Bearcats (15-0) a 34-28 victory in defense of their Class 1 championship.

Thayer (12-2) had a chance to win it in regulation, but it gave up a touchdown with 11 seconds left on a 16-yard run, then after tying the game on a 62-yard TD pass from Jacob Eckman to Lance Schneider on the final snap in regulation play, Ethan Leisenring’s PAT kick was blocked.
