All-Metro football team: Defensive Player of the Year Terry Hawthorne

Position: Defensive back School: East St. Louis • senior Vitals: 6-1 • 185 College plans: University of Illinois Hawthorne will be remembered as one of the great players in East St. Louis history, which is quite a statement. In a remarkable playoff run, Hawthorne had seven postseason interceptions and returned four of them for touchdowns. His eight total interceptions and 118 tackles were team-highs, and he also caught 48 passes for 1,009 yards. As a punter, he was among the area leaders with a 44.8-yard average.
