Timberland’s Demien earns national recognition
Wentzville Timberland junior offensive lineman Nick Demien has a growing list of colleges who want him to come play for them in the fall of 2010.
Recently, Demien was ranked as the 51st best prospect in his class by Rivals.com. That’s makes him the highest rated player in the St. Louis area and in the state of Missouri.
The 6-foot-6, 295-pound left tackle, who was a Post-Dispatch all-metro first-team selection this past season, sports a long list of scholarship offers. Rivals.com lists Demien with offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Demien was one of three Show-Me State athletes to make Rivals.com’s list of the top 250 prospects for the Class of 2010.
The next highest rated player in Missouri is Liberty wide receiver Marcus Lucas, who checked in at No. 108. Rock Bridge defensive lineman Chase Rome was No. 176. Blue Springs wide receiver Keeston Terry was No. 203.
Cahokia wide receiver Jimmie Hunt, who already has scholarship offers from Missouri and Kansas State, was the next highest ranked St. Louis area player on the list, at No. 208.
There were two area players on the Rivals.com’s top 100 list for the Class of 2009: Gateway Tech defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson (No. 4) and East St. Louis wide receiver Terry Hawthorne (No. 58). St. Louis University High running back Ronnie Wingo was No. 101.

Congrats to those Missouri players that made the Rivals Class of 2010 Top 250. The only comment I would like to make is that there are far too many players from California, Texas and Florida on this list. You would think that by the preponderance of players from these three states that the rest of the Union doesn’t even play football. Having followed football my entire life, I would like to see something other than players from these so called “hot beds” of football talent. I know plenty of St Louis Metro and East Side players that are every bit as good if not better than some of the players listed. It is truly a joke.
