Lincolnwood Beats Marissa To Claim Class 1A Crown
Lefthander Josh Glick pitched a three-hitter while striking out 10 and Raymond Lincolnwood scored two unearned runs on Marissa errors as the Lancers defeated the Meteors 3-1 to win the Illinois Class 1A state baseball championship Saturday afternoon at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.
It was the second straight year Marissa has finished second in the state. The Meteors lost to Jacksonville Routt last season 13-3 in the championship game.
Marissa’s lone run Saturday came in the top of the fourth when Logan Tabor, who had stroked a one-out triple, scored after Michael Lloyd struck out swinging at a ball in the dirt. When Lincolnwood catcher Shane Burbridge threw out Lloyd at first, Tabor ran home.
Joseph Phelps tossed a five-inning two-hitter for the Meteors, but two fielding errors and two wild throws for errors cost his team two runs _ one in the first and onde in the third. Marissa also made four errors on Friday in its semifinal win over Morrison.
The Lancers scored their final run off Marissa reliever David Parkinson in the bottom of the sixth when Sam Elmore singled to lead off, stole second, when to third on a wild pitch and scored when Shane Herschelman got an infield single between the pitcher’s mound and second base.
