Metro area athletes shine at nationals
Several current and former area prep athletes made the trip to Eugene, Oregon for the USATF Junior Nationals this past weekend. The top performances include:
Alishea Usery, who just finished her freshman year at Florida after running for Berkeley, won the 400-meter dash in 53.91;
Emily Sisson, who will be a senior at Parkway Central, took second in the 3,000-meter run in 9:55.31 less than a week after winning the 5k at Nike Nationals in the meet’s second fastest time of 16:34.36;
Alyssa Allison, a recent Festus graduate, took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:55.51 and missed the gold medal by .26 of a second;
Elaine Patten, a recent O’Fallon graduate, tied for third in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches;
Precious Selmon, a recent Crystal City graduate, took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.03 and was 11th in the long jump at 18 feet, 6 1/2 inches;
Brittney Cloudy, who just completed her freshman year at SLU after graduating from Marquette, took seventh in the triple jump at 41-0 1/4;
Erin Wykoff, a sophomore-to-be at Virginia after competing at Triad, took eighth in the discus with a throw of 152 feet, 4 inches, and her sister Kristin Wykoff, who attends SIUE, was 15th with a 133-2;
Ross Larimar, a sophomore-to-be at Oklahoma after running for Parkway West, was 12th in the 1,500 at 3:57.59.
