Metro-East Lutheran Up 1-0 Through One Inning
The Illinois Class 2A state championship baseball game is underway at Silver Cross Field in Joliet and unheralded Metro-East Lutheran has jumped out in front 1-0 after one inning over defending state champion Stanford-Olympia.
Jon Trampe led off with a single to right. Brian Berry followed with a shot to right field that Stanford-Olympia right fielder Zach Zindel, after crashing into the wall, dropped. Nick Hoff, who was running for Trampe, held up between first and second, waiting to see what Zindel would do, could only get to third and Berry wound up at second.
Matt Brynildsen followed with a ground out to short as Hoff scored and Berry was called out for running out of the baseline after he got in a rundown.
Olympia threatened in the bottom of the inning, but left runners on second and third.
