The Missouri sportswriters and broadcasters football rankings were released this morning.

Hazelwood Central coach Richard Nixon will probably be pleased to see that his Hawks, which went 12-2 and won the Missouri Class 6 championship last fall, were picked as the second-best team in Class 6 behind Blue Springs. That should provide some extra motivation to Hazelwood Central, which only received four first-place votes compared to Blue Springs’ eight.

Webster Groves is ranked second in Class 5 behind Raymore-Peculiar. The Statesmen received one first-place vote while Ray-Pec received 11.  Defending Class 5 champion Hazelwood East, which was hit hard by graduation, checks in at No. 3 in the rankings.

MICDS is ranked fourth in Class 4. Cardinal Ritter is ranked fifth in Class 3 and received one first-place vote.

State Rankings

The preseason state rankings for Missouri high school football voted on by a 12-person panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. First-place votes in parenthesis, followed by last year’s won-loss record, points received and last year’s final ranking.

In 2A do’t sleep on the CC Indians, yes they lost alot but they have 12 seniors back with alot of playing experience. Coaching makes the biggest differece here,CC has one of the best coaching staffs in Missouri with Matt Smith HC/OC cordinator & Quenton Hamner DC cordinator. with this Duo & the other assistants,CC will compete @ the next level for a number of years!

The Hazelwood Central Hawks squeaked out a win against a very formidable University City football team. Needless to say, coach Nixon has his work cut out, for starters he should probably figure out who he is going to start at the Defensive Back/Safety positions. These guys looked confused and could not tackle. I am sure he has other talent with such a large amount of players, the question is, will he play these other guys to get back to the State Championship game or will he fold???

John K., well said and I couldn’t agree more. I will add the kids showed resolve today with the come back win! Let’s see how much resolve the coach and crew has for next week and the rest of the season. Hopefully this was first game jitters and not an extension of what we will see the rest of the season?… Here is an idea Coach Nixon… PLAY SOME OF THE OTHER 60 some odd players, bad for you if that’s all the talent you have, bad for them if it is not and you can’t see it.. WHOA!!!
